Takeaways from Friday's events at UN 気候 会議／協議会 known as COP28

Friday was a day for speechmaking at the 国際連合 年次の 気候 会議／協議会, known as COP28, as 長，率いるs of 明言する／公表する each gave short speeches to 配達する their 見解（をとる）s on the 惑星's 気候 危機, what their nation is doing and what they think others should do.

It was also a day of sadness, as not far away in the Middle East, Israeli airstrikes and ground fighting 再開するd in the Gaza （土地などの）細長い一片 after a week-long 一時休戦 in the イスラエル-Hamas war to 交流 人質s and 囚人s.

And it was a day for nations to 発表する 取引，協定s or 誓約（する）s 目的（とする）d at 論証するing their かかわり合いs to take 活動／戦闘 to 茎・取り除く 気候 change.

Some takeaways from Friday's events in Dubai:

LEADERS SUMMIT

World leaders 焦点（を合わせる）d on the 規模 and 切迫した 脅し of 気候 change and the 激烈な 活動／戦闘 needed to curtail 全世界の warming before it becomes an even worse 大災害. 国際連合 長官-General Antonio Guterres took 目的（とする） at 化石 燃料s. That 産業 is in the スポットライト at these 会談. COP28 is hosted in the oil-rich 部隊d Arab 首長国s and the 会議／協議会 大統領，／社長, 暴君 al-Jaber, also 長，率いるs Abu Dhabi 国家の Oil Co.

Saving the 惑星 from 気候 change and keeping warming within the Paris 協定's goal of 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 Fahrenheit) means 除去するing oil and gas use, Guterres said.

"Not 減ずる, not abate. 段階 out," Guterres said.

The sickness of 気候 change is something only the world's leaders can cure, he said.

"We are miles from the goals of the Paris 協定 and minutes to midnight for the 1.5 degree 限界, but it is not too late," the 長官-general said. "We can - you can - 妨げる planetary 衝突，墜落 and 燃やす."

Other leaders said the countries had come together and 認めるd the 脅し 温室 gases 提起する／ポーズをとるd, but that far more was needed. And now.

Brazil 大統領 Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said by 2030 his country would stop deforestat イオン. 持続するing Brazil's rainforests is 決定的な for slowing 気候 change. He said there had been too many "eloquent and empty speeches."

GAZA LOOMS LARGE

As leaders 最高潮の場面d the 脅し of melting glaciers and a hotter, more dangerous 惑星, the イスラエル-Hamas war hung over the 訴訟／進行s, with a weeklong 停戦 coming to an end earlier in the day. Several （衆議院の）議長s 発言する／表明するd sympathy for Palestinians, connecting their 苦しむing with the 脅し of 気候 change.

"Let´s be inclusive of the most 攻撃を受けやすい Palestinians 厳しく 衝撃d by the war," Jordan´s King Abdullah said.

Guterres told other leaders that the consequences of 気候 change were 悲惨な and 活動／戦闘 was needed to 妨げる the 環境 from 衝突，墜落ing, but also said, "衝突s are 原因（となる）ing 巨大な 苦しむing and 激しい emotion."

Those comments （機の）カム as the 衝突's weeklong 停戦 ended. イスラエル 再開するd its strikes on Gaza, while 交戦的なs there 解雇する／砲火／射撃d ロケット／急騰するs into イスラエル. Jordan's King Abdullah raised the 苦境 of "攻撃を受けやすい Palestinians" and an 環境の group had handbills reading, "停戦 Now."

イスラエル 大統領 Isaac Herzog didn't give a speech at the 首脳会議, although he had been on the schedule. And Iran´s 代表 left Friday's 訴訟／進行s to show its 抗議する against the presence of Israeli 公式の／役人s, 明言する／公表する-run IRNA news 機関 報告（する）／憶測d Friday.

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND MONEY

It was a day of 誓約（する）d money and pronouncements of ambitious 計画（する）s.

A group of 36 countries co-議長，司会を務めるd by Germany and Chile 目的（とする）s to ambit iously 取り組む 産業の 放出／発行s. It's called the " 気候 Club," which first arose at a Group of Seven 首脳会議 last year and has now 正式に 開始する，打ち上げるd. The 目的（とする） is to 達成する 産業の growth while lowering the 部門's 放出／発行s.

German （ドイツなどの）首相／（大学の）学長 Olaf Scholz said that the 移行 to a 気候-中立の economy "will work only together, not against each other, and that is the 根底となる idea behind this 気候 club" - even if countries are 追求するing different paths. He said it 含むs many countries from the 全世界の south.

It doesn´t yet 含む big emitters such as 中国 and India, but Scholz said many countries have an 利益／興味 in joining.

European Union 大統領，／社長 Ursula 出身の der Leyen said that the 計画（する） would 意味ありげに 上げる Vietnam´s ability to get electricity from renewable sources - from a planned 36% of the total mix to 47%. That's in line with Vietnam´s own 連邦の energy 計画（する） which 目的（とする）s at getting nearly half of its electricity from renewable sources like solar and 勝利，勝つd, along with hydropower by 2030.

Japanese 総理大臣 Fumio Kishida 誓約（する）d to end new construction at home of unabated coal 解雇する／砲火／射撃d 力／強力にする 工場／植物s, in a show of clearer 決意 than in the past, toward 達成するing 逮捕する-無.
