Sen. Katie Britt will stride の上に the 国家の 行う/開催する/段階 to 配達する GOP's 明言する/公表する of the Union 返答

WASHINGTON (AP) - Two days after an Alabama 最高裁判所 判決,裁定 that 脅すd fertility clinics in the 明言する/公表する, Sen. Katie Britt placed a call to former 大統領 Donald Trump.

Britt 手配中の,お尋ね者 Trump, then on a 計画(する) 長,率いるd to South Carolina, to understand the significance of what had happened. The 法廷,裁判所´s 判決,裁定 that frozen embryos can be considered children under 明言する/公表する 法律 was already 封鎖するing 接近 to in vitro fertilization at clinics across the 明言する/公表する. Britt made the argument to Trump that the practice should be embraced by the 共和国の/共和党の Party - it is プロの/賛成の-life and プロの/賛成の-family, she said.

Within hours of the conversation, Trump 問題/発行するd a 声明 that said he would "堅固に support the availability of IVF," and he called on 国会議員s in Alabama to 保存する 接近 to the 治療.

"I got a call from Katie Britt, a very wonderful young 上院議員 in Alabama," Trump 解任するd in an interview with Fox News´ Sean Hannity several days later. "And I said, we want that. We want people to help. We´re on the 味方する of women."

After only a year in the 上院, Britt is (権力などを)行使するing her 影響(力) - and her blend of experience as a former congressional スタッフの一員 and mother - to carve out a unique 役割 in the party. As the youngest 女性(の) 上院議員, she 代表するs a new 世代 of 共和国の/共和党のs in a volatile political 時代. And the party is now amplifying her 発言する/表明する, ゆだねるing Britt to 配達する the 共和国の/共和党の 返答 to 大統領 Joe Biden´s 明言する/公表する of the Union speech on Thursday evening.

"At this 決定的な moment in our country´s history, it´s time for the next 世代 to step up and 保存する the American Dream for our children and our grandchildren," Britt said in a 声明 with congressional leaders 発表するing that she would give the 返答.

Britt, 42, was elected to the 上院 in 2022 after a bruising 最初の/主要な (選挙などの)運動をする in which Trump 無効にするd his 裏書,是認 of former 共和国の/共和党の Rep. Mo Brooks and switched to 支援 Britt. On the (選挙などの)運動をする 追跡する, Britt often touted her strong Christian 約束 and used the スローガン "Alabama First," echoing Trump´s "America First" rhetoric.

After she was elected, Britt said she would be a "mama on a 使節団" to get things done in Washington.

Soon after she was sworn in, 上院 共和国の/共和党の Leader Mitch McConnell tapped Britt to be one of several 助言者s who sit in on 週刊誌 leadership 会合s. At the time, she said she believed she brought a 批判的な 視野 that was often 行方不明の in Washington, not only because of her age but also as the only 共和国の/共和党の 上院議員 who is a mother of school-age children.

発表するing last week that Britt would give the party 返答, McConnell called Britt "an unapologetic 楽天主義者" and said she "wasted no time in becoming a 主要な 発言する/表明する."

In her year in office, Britt has made 移民/移住 one of her 重要な 問題/発行するs, 参加するing in 早期に 交渉s on a 上院 国境 取引,協定 before dropping out and 結局 投票(する)ing against it. She has also worked on 問題/発行するs with a family 焦点(を合わせる), co-authoring a bipartisan 法案 目的(とする)d at 保護するing children online.

She joined a 代表 of 上院議員s visiting イスラエル すぐに after the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas where she spoke emotionally and forcefully at a 圧力(をかける) 会議/協議会, wearing a large diamond cross that rarely leaves her neck: "Make no mistake, I believe that people of all 約束s can 存在する in peace and 繁栄," she said. "But I do not believe that good can 存在する with evil."

Britt has been a reliably 保守的な 投票(する), rarely wavering from the party line, or Trump, on 重要な 問題/発行するs. But her approach has 異なるd from many of the other new 共和国の/共和党の 上院議員s - all men - who arrived at the same time last year and joined with the 権利 側面に位置する of the GOP 会議/協議会 in 非難するing McConnell's leadership. Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, for example, has been outspoken in his 対立 to ウクライナ共和国 援助(する) and traveled to Munich earlier this month to 株 that 視野 with European 同盟(する)s.

Britt has so far preferred to operate more on the inside, forming 関係s with 同僚s behind the scenes and waiting to make her first speech on the 上院 床に打ち倒す.

She has also purposefully reached across the aisle, becoming の近くに with freshmen Democratic Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Peter Welch of Vermont. The three 上院議員s often eat dinner together, and Britt 言及するs to them as her friends.

Britt became so の近くに to Fetterman at the beginning of last year that she was one of the only people that the 民主党員 招待するd to visit him in the hospital after he checked himself in to be 扱う/治療するd for 不景気. She and her husband, former NFL football player Wesley Britt, still socialize with Fetterman and his wife. And when the 非常に高い Pennsylvania 上院議員 sees Britt in the hallways, he often loudly calls out his 愛称 for her: "Alabama!"

Welch says he has two feelings about Britt 存在 選ぶd to give the GOP 返答. "One, I feel very good for her, and I think she´ll do a 広大な/多数の/重要な 職業," Welch said. "And I´m very disappointed that the 共和国の/共和党のs made such a smart 決定/判定勝ち(する)."

Britt has also been (疑いを)晴らす that she sees 上級の women 上院議員s as her 役割 models, 関わりなく party. In the hours after the death of California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a 民主党員, she 交流d texts with Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, the chairwoman of the 上院 (資金の)充当/歳出s 委員会, and asked if she could sit with the other women 上院議員s as they paid 尊敬の印 to Feinstein on the 上院 床に打ち倒す that morning. She said in one text that Feinstein, like Murray, had 炎d a 追跡する for her - a 感情 that Murray later said brought her to 涙/ほころびs.

Maine Sen. Susan Collins, the 最高の,を越す 共和国の/共和党の on the (資金の)充当/歳出s パネル盤, said that she´s thrilled to have Britt 代表するing the party. "She is a refreshing breath of fresh 空気/公表する and brings energy and a different 視野 to our (政党の)幹部会,党集会, which I think is really important," Collins said.

Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy, a 民主党員 who leads the (資金の)充当/歳出s 委員会's 母国 安全 小委員会 with Britt, says, "She´s an all-星/主役にする and 共和国の/共和党のs know it."

Murphy, who has 参加するd in bipartisan 交渉s on several 問題/発行するs, said he's 希望に満ちた that Britt is "going to 結局最後にはーなる 存在 one of the people that ends up trying to help make the 上院 a place that 作品."

Britt´s 関係s across the aisle are in the mold of her 前任者 and former boss, Sen. Richard Shelby, who was the 最高の,を越す 共和国の/共和党の on the 上院 (資金の)充当/歳出s 委員会. But her bipartisanship rarely 延長するs to her 投票(する)ing 記録,記録的な/記録する. She 投票(する)d in 委員会 against the 母国 安全 spending 法案 that she helped 交渉する, 説 that it didn´t do enough to 茎・取り除く 移住 at the southern U.S. 国境.

She has also been a 保守的な 発言する/表明する in her home 明言する/公表する, frequently 非難するing Biden and lamenting a country she has said she no longer 認めるs. In December, she 是認するd Trump for the 大統領/総裁などの地位.

She is 推定する/予想するd to continue that 主題 in Thursday´s 返答.

"The 共和国の/共和党の Party is the party of hardworking parents and families, and I´m looking 今後 to putting this 批判的な 視野 前線 and 中心," she said in the 告示. "There is no 疑問 that 大統領 Biden´s failed 大統領/総裁などの地位 has made America 女性 and more 攻撃を受けやすい at every turn."
