移転 portal, NIL challenge teams to fill and 持続する rosters, even as March Madness continues
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Morehead 明言する／公表する coach Preston Spradlin wasn´t surprised when several players from his 2021 March Madness team 結局 took their talents どこかよそで, with a couple 上陸 at 力／強力にする Five programs.
The Eagles´ return to this year´s NCAA Tournament shows he didn´t panic. Even though the Ohio Valley 会議／協議会 school tucked in the eastern Kentucky mountains 欠如（する）s the flashy profile and 深い 資源s that larger programs can 申し込む／申し出 -- 特に when it comes to 指名する, image and likeness (NIL) -- Spradlin worked the 移転 portal to his advantage by selling small-school virtues along with a successful 再開する.
"We´ve had some guys who played at the 力／強力にする Five level that have come 負かす／撃墜する because they 手配中の，お尋ね者 a bigger 役割 and 手配中の，お尋ね者 to experience playing more and all those types of things," the eighth-year coach said the day after 選択 Sunday. "So yeah, there´s give and take both ways and it 作品 in both directions."

Clemson guard Joseph Girard III, who transferred from Syracuse after Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim retired, said there are プロの／賛成のs and 反対／詐欺s and the portal is a good second chance for players whose 決定／判定勝ち（する）s in high school didn´t pan out as 推定する／予想するd. South Carolina women´s coach 夜明け Staley has also turned over the 最高の，を越す-階級d Gamecocks roster after 出発s of several 退役軍人s and 定評のある that the portal´s presence 要求するs 関係 building.
"If you don´t have a strong staff and a strong 関係 with your team, it gets hard because, you know, you´re thinking about who is going to jump in the portal, how you prep for the NCAA Tournament," she said.
For schools from lower-profile 会議／協議会s, the いわゆる 中央の-majors, keeping players from 捜し出すing greener pastures at bigger schools is even tougher. 特に when the big teams can sweeten the マリファナ with lucrative NIL 適切な時期s along with more （危険などに）さらす on the bigger 行う／開催する／段階.
"It´s a different game than what it´s been," said Dayton men´s coach Anthony 認める, who wondered about NIL and the 影響（力） of スパイ／執行官s and sponsors 伴う／関わるd with players.
"I think the beauty of college 運動競技のs has always been the ability to bring a team together and grow a team together. ... As a coach, you begin to question if that piece of it can remain a part of the game. Whether it´s basketball or football, or really any sport, I think that´s in the balance 権利 now."
Though the portal´s 開始 権利 after 選択 Sunday gave schools who aren´t playing in the postseason an 初期の peek at who´s 利用できる, many of the 68 men´s and women´s teams that began NCAA play last 週末 had a bigger goal to 焦点（を合わせる） on. That's the 事例／患者 with schools competing in lower-tier tournaments such as the NIT and CIT.
That doesn´t mean coaches aren't looking. 新採用するing never really stops. Although coaches, such as Nevada´s Steve Alford, wish the window could have opened after the Final Four to 許す tournament teams and their coaching staffs to enjoy the most important part of the season.

How it all shakes out remains to be seen.

"Number one is player 開発," Logie said. "And the second part is team building. That´s not just roster building. We´ve always taken 広大な／多数の／重要な pride in the basketball family that I´m a part of in player 開発 and team building. Once that 過程 started in earnest in June, nothing was really different about our 旅行."
