Chun says he had a different Big Ten school in mind, but Washington is where he's 'supposed to be'
SEATTLE (AP) - Pat Chun finished his 開始 発言／述べるs with a phrase that drew 賞賛 from a （人が）群がる of 支持者s 覆う？ in purple.
"Go Dawgs," he said.
Yes, it sounded 半端物.
Chun was introduced Thursday as the new 運動競技の director at the University of Washington, leaving behind six years in the same 役割 at Washington 明言する／公表する to take the reins of the 競争相手 program that will begin life in the Big Ten 会議／協議会 this 落ちる.
"We looked for the best person in the country. It was incidental that person was at Washington 明言する／公表する," Washington 大統領，／社長 Ana Mari Cauce said.
Since the middle of last summer, Chun had been locked in a fight with Washington and the 残り／休憩（する） of the Pac-12 members that are 出発／死ing for new 会議／協議会s at the end of this academic year, まっただ中に the 崩壊（する） of what was the 旗艦 会議／協議会 on the West Coast. Chun will take over for Troy Dannen, who surprisingly left Washington after いっそう少なく than six months on the 職業 to take the same position at Nebraska last week. "I´ve told friends this is not the Big Ten school we thought we would be at," Chun said. "But the reality is the good lord 作品 in different ways and this is where we´re at, this is where we´re supposed to be."< /p>
Chun said he was in Omaha, Nebraska, last Wednesday with the Washington 明言する／公表する men´s basketball team 準備するing for its first NCAA Tournament game when USC 運動競技の director - and former Washington AD - Jen Cohen called to 計器 if there might be 利益／興味 in the Huskies 職業.
"We´re friends. So at the end of the day you´ll take a friend´s advice because she loves and cares for my family," Chun said.
Chun isn´t walking into a perfect 環境 at Washington. The Huskies are on their third 運動競技の director since the school 発表するd it was leaving for the Big Ten last summer. It has an $8 million 赤字 the next 会計年度 and rising 負債 services to be paid on the 革新s of Husky Stadium from a １０年間 ago.
There´s also the fact that Washington will only be receiving a half-株 of Big Ten payouts compared to the other 会議／協議会 members.
And then there's how the 決定／判定勝ち（する） sits 300 miles away in Pullman - where Washington 明言する／公表する 大統領，／社長 Kirk Schulz told Cougfan.com of his 失望 in Chun´s 決定／判定勝ち（する） and said his reaction would have been different if it was another Big Ten school other than Washington.
Washington 明言する／公表する football coach Jake Dickert told reporters Thursday that he had a "本物の 評価" for Chun, who 雇うd Dickert into the 十分な-time position に引き続いて the tumultuous 2021 football season.
