Ocean 破片 left by jet depends on angle, 速度(を上げる)

SYDNEY (AP) ― Did the 行方不明の Malaysian jet 急落(する),激減(する) into the ocean at a 法外な angle, leaving 事実上 no 破片 on the surface? Did it come in flat, clip a wave and cartwheel into pieces? Or did it break up in 空中, sending chunks 宙返り/暴落するing 負かす/撃墜する over a wide 列 of water?

正確に/まさに how the 計画(する) 攻撃する,衝突する the water makes a big difference to the teams 請け負うing the painstaking search for the 難破. 捜査官/調査官s have frustratingly little hard data to work out how Malaysia 航空機によるs Flight 370 (機の)カム 負かす/撃墜する in the Indian Ocean on March 8 with 239 people on board.

Here are some possible シナリオs:

Up to 14 計画(する)s and as many ships were 焦点(を合わせる)ing on a 選び出す/独身 search area covering 77, 580 square キロメーターs (29,954 square miles) of ocean, 2,270 キロメーターs (1,400 miles) northwest of the Australian west coast city of Perth, Australia. A STEEP DIVE:

If the 計画(する) ran out of 燃料 at its normal 巡航するing 高度 and the 操縦するs were incapacitated, the (空)自動操縦装置 would stop working and the 航空機 could 下落する into an ますます 法外な and 早い dive, 航空 専門家s said. Under this シナリオ, the 計画(する) could 攻撃する,衝突する the water nose-first and の近くに to perpendicular with the surface, piercing the ocean like an arrow.

The wings and tail would be torn away and the fuselage could reach a depth of 30 メーターs or 40 メーターs within seconds, then 沈む without resurfacing. Wing pieces and other 激しい 破片 would descend soon afterward.

Whether buoyant 破片 from the 乗客 cabin ― things like 泡,激怒すること seat cushions, seatback (米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs and plastic drinking water 瓶/封じ込めるs ― would (頭が)ひょいと動く up to the surface would depend on whether the fuselage 決裂d on 衝撃, and how bad the 損失 was.

"It may have gone in almost 完全にする somehow, and not left much on the surface," said Jason Middleton, an 航空 professor at Australia's University of New South むちの跡s.

Any floating 破片 left would be in a 比較して 含む/封じ込めるd area, but would begin drifting apart. Most would 結局 become waterlogged and 沈む, though items such as 泡,激怒すること seat cushions could fl oat almost 無期限に/不明確に, Middleton said.

AN INTENTIONAL DITCH:

商業の flight 乗組員s train to bring a 計画(する) 負かす/撃墜する in water with a 最小限 of 損失. They 捨てる 燃料, slow the 計画(する) 負かす/撃墜する to the 絶対の 最小限 速度(を上げる) needed to 持続する 支配(する)/統制する, and try to 緩和する the 計画(する) into the water at a shallow angle.

Middleton said the 溝へはまらせる/不時着するing of ハイジャック(する)d 空気/公表する Ethiopia Flight 961 in the Comoros Islands in 1996 is a 劇の example of what could be 推定する/予想するd to happen next. ビデオ of the 衝突,墜落 shows the 計画(する)'s 左翼 dipping first into a flat ocean, which 引き裂くs off an engine and drags the 航空機 の上に its left 味方する. 破片 飛行機で行くs off in all directions before the nose digs in and the 計画(する) flips and breaks apart. Just 50 of the 175 people 船内に 生き残るd.

"You have the prospect of the 計画(する) smacking into the 味方する or 前線 of a wave crest, with one engine or wing dipping in first and the whole thing cartwheeling, and the airplane is going to break up," Middleton said.

破片 would be spread over a wide area. 激しい pieces would likely 沈む quickly, but items such as galley parts and items from 総計費 compartments could float for a long time, said John M. Cox, an 空気/公表する safety 顧問 and former 航空機による 操縦する.

A MIDAIR EXPLOSION:

捜査官/調査官s also must consider the 可能性 that an 爆発 ripped the 計画(する) apart at high 高度. If that occurred, chunks of the 計画(する) would 落ちる to earth at different 速度(を上げる)s によれば their size and other factors, said Geoff Dell, an 航空 and 事故 調査 専門家 at Australia's Central Queensland University.

難破 could be spread over an area of several キロメーターs (miles), as happened when a 爆弾 崩壊するd Pan Am Flight 1 03 over the Scottish town of Lockerbie in 1988.

THE HOPE AGAINST HOPE:

The 溝へはまらせる/不時着するing of US 航空路s Flight 1549 into the Hudson River in 2009 shows that a ジェット旅客機 can be brought 負かす/撃墜する in water without loss of life. But Graham Edkins, a former Australian 政府 上級の 空気/公表する 衝突,墜落 捜査官/調査官, said it 要求するs an almost unbelievable confluence of 技術, 条件s and luck.

"On a 有望な and sunny day, with no waves and no 勝利,勝つd, and the captain can see everything and is very experienced, you can see it is possible to get the 計画(する) on the water in a way that everyone could get out," Middleton said.

条件s in the part of the Indian Ocean where the 計画(する) is believed to have gone 負かす/撃墜する are nothing like those in New York that helped pull off the "奇蹟 on the Hudson." Swells in the 地域 普通の/平均(する) around 5 メーターs (16 feet).

Even if the 計画(する) landed 比較して 損なわれていない in the water, it would すぐに start to 沈む, giving those on board little time to escape ― into waters of around 8 C (46 F) in a remote 地域 with no 即座の hope of 救助(する).
