Ming 王朝 'chicken cup' sold for 記録,記録的な/記録する $36M

HONG KONG (AP) ― A Shanghai collector paid a 記録,記録的な/記録する $36 million Tuesday for a rare Ming 王朝 cup that's touted as the "宗教上の grail" of 中国's art world.

Several 記録,記録的な/記録するs have been 始める,決める at Sotheby's spring sales in Hong Kong, continuing a 傾向 of sky-high prices in the art world driven by the newly 最高の-rich 買い手s in 中国 and 発展途上国s.

The dainty, white cup from the 15th century 対策 just 8 センチメートルs (3.1 インチs) in 直径 and is known as a "chicken cup" because it's decorated with a rooster and 女/おっせかい屋 tending to their chicks. Sotheby's 述べるs the cup as having flawless translucent 味方するs with its lively scene painted continuously around its 味方するs.

It was made during the 統治する of the Ming 王朝's Chenghua Emperor, who 支配するd from 1465 to 1487. Sotheby's said only 17 such cups 存在する, with four in 私的な 手渡すs and the 残り/休憩(する) in museums.

"There's no more 伝説の 反対する in the history of Chinese porcelain," said Nicholas Chow, Sotheby's 副 chairman for Asia. "This is really the 宗教上の grail when it comes to Chinese art."

The previous 記録,記録的な/記録する for Chinese porcelain was 始める,決める in 2010 when a gourd-形態/調整d Qianlong vase sold for $32.4 million, Sotheby's said.

"Definitely the mood in Hong Kong at this moment, in Asia, is buoyant," said Chow.

Sotheby's i dentified the 買い手 as collector Liu Yiqian, and Chow said the cup would likely go on 陳列する,発揮する in Liu's Long Museum in Shanghai, which he and his wife, Wang Wei, opened in 2012.

Liu is a middle-school 脱落者 who drove a cab before becoming a multimillionaire. Forbes 見積(る)s his fortune at $900 million, making him the 200th richest person in 中国.
