With new look, 80-year-old Paris zoo to re-open
PARIS (AP) ― Its gray, man-made mountain that might 誘惑する King Kong still protrudes over treetops, but nearly everything else has changed as Paris' zoo 準備するs to re-open after a multi-year, multimillion-euro (dollar) makeover.
A 孤独な lion was lounging, the 粗野な人間s burrowing, and lemurs leaping from 支店 to 支店 as the Zoological Park of Paris opened for a herd of 新聞記者／雑誌記者s on Wednesday before a grand re-開始 this 週末.
徐々に, and with no 欠如（する） of logistical 頭痛s, the 80-year-old Paris attraction returned to life: Macaws cackled, red ibises perched on one foot on a 温室 rail, and the stench of giraffe manure wafted through a cavernous indoor pen ― certifying that, yep, this is a bona fide zoo.

The 65-メーター (215-foot) Grand 玉石, the zoo's main 目印 (which 現実に covers a water tower) has been touched up, but isn't やめる ready to host 訪問者s for its panoramic 見解（をとる）s, 公式の／役人s said. When it does it may help 誘惑する 訪問者s out to the zoo's 場所／位置 近づく the eastern 郊外 of Vincennes, and away from Paris' many other 最高潮の場面s.
WHAT'S NEW?
When the zoo 一時的に の近くにd in 2008, its 崩壊するing 陳列する，発揮するs were a safety hazard. Without major refurbishment since its 開始 in 1934, the zoo was a 固める／コンクリート ジャングル of 伝統的な animal cages. The 温室 as long as a football field features not-so-shy grey-winged trumpeters strutting across a walkway (and at times つつく／ペックing at photographers' camera レンズs), and a lethargic West Indian manatee.
WHAT MAKES THIS ZOO DIFFERENT?
Instead of by type, the animals have been grouped by 地域 of origin ― and there are five: Madagascar, Patagonia, Guyana, Europe and Sahel-Sudan, the largest 選び出す／独身 area in the zoo and home to African savannah roamers. Rolling 地形 and 人工的な 激しく揺するs point to the 成果／努力 to re-create the natural ecosystems, as best possible. "It's like a 旅行 around the 惑星," said zoo director Sophie Ferreira Le Morvan. Giraffes and ostriches co-habit one 陳列する，発揮する area, zebras and rhinos another. A male lion, somewhat understandably, has his own pen until three lionesses arrive.
WHAT ARE THE STAR ATTRACTIONS?
Giraffes. Zoo 公式の／役人s say the 16 giraffes ― some with ancestors that were here in 1934 ― 量 to the largest 配合 of its 肉親，親類d in Europe. The giraffes' indoor dwelling 申し込む／申し出s 直面する-to-直面する 見解（をとる）ing. While many animals were shipped away to other zoos during the 革新, the giraffes stayed put, to literally "監督する" the work, as the cheeky zookeepers put it. The lion called Neron (the French namesake of Roman emperor Nero) and pack of European wolves are likely kid-friendly sights.
HOW DIFFICULT HAS THE REOPENING BEEN?
Most of the animals that left for the 革新 won't be returning, so like modern-day 相当するものs of Noah the zookeepers have had to bring in new ones. To make sure the animals are happy in their new digs the staff are letting the creatures adapt at their own 速度(を上げる） ― いつかs a snail's pace. One young addax was spooked at the unfamiliar sight of zebras. 予定 to space 強制s, there are no elephants. 長，指導者 veterinarian Alexis Lecu said the one animal he wants is a platypus, but "we'll have to ask the Australian 政府."
BY THE NUMBERS
The zoo has some 180 種類 ― 含むing 74 bird and 42 哺乳動物 種類 ― totaling over 1,000 animals (aside from the insects). The 予算 for the 革新, under a public-私的な 共同, was 167 million euros ($230 million). Signage at the 陳列する，発揮するs is French only, but 音声部の guides are 利用できる in several languages. 十分な-率 admission 範囲s from 11 euros (about $15) for kids 老年の 3 to 11, to 22 euros for adults.
