American the 最新の 航空機による to tweak flier program

DALLAS (AP) ― 航空機による 旅行者s are adjusting to constant turbulence in たびたび(訪れる)-flier programs.

American 航空機によるs is the 最新の to tinker with its program. The Dallas-based 運送/保菌者 on Tuesday 発表するd changes that make it tougher to redeem miles for a flight during busy travel periods, and to check a 捕らえる、獲得する without a 料金.

The changes aren't as 劇の as Delta 空気/公表する Lines Inc.'s 最近の switch to basing rewards on money spent, not miles flown, but they are just the 最新の example of 航空機によるs giving away いっそう少なく as (n)役員/(a)執行力のあるs ますます 焦点(を合わせる) on growing 利益(をあげる)s.

American and US 航空路s on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 発表するd changes to their 政策s on checked-捕らえる、獲得する 料金s and redeeming miles for 解放する/自由な flights. 乗客s traveling on American on miles they earned or who paid 十分な price for an economy seat won't get to check two 捕らえる、獲得するs for 解放する/自由な anymore. Gary Leff, a travel blogger and co-創立者 of たびたび(訪れる)-flier website MilePoint, said 航空機によるs are lowering the value of miles because 計画(する)s are 十分な and they would rather sell the seats than give them away.

During the 広大な/多数の/重要な 後退,不況, when 航空機によるs were struggling and many 計画(する)s were half-empty, 航空機によるs lavished miles on 顧客s who 調印するd up for credit cards or made other 購入(する)s. Now the big 航空機によるs routinely fill more than 80 パーセント of their seats.

"There's a real 貿易(する)-off between giving the seat to a たびたび(訪れる)-flier redemption versus cash," Leff said. "権利 now the pendulum is swinging toward いっそう少なく generosity rather than more. Much of this is cyclical and 経済的な."

Still, American isn't 減ずるing the value of miles as much as 部隊d 大陸の Holdings Inc. did in November for international trips in first- and 商売/仕事-class, travel 専門家s say. But American's moves will make its program more 複雑にするd and could make it easier for the 航空機による to 効果的に raise prices without 消費者s noticing.

Some 専門家s also 推定する/予想する American to 結局 copy Delta's approach, which will 利益 high-spending 商売/仕事 旅行者s but 傷つける vacationers who hoard miles earned on 割引 fares.

American and US 航空路s 合併するd in December and between them have 110 million members in American's AAdvantage ― the granddaddy of 航空機による 忠義 programs ― an d US 航空路s' (株主への)配当 Miles. の中で the biggest changes 発表するd Tuesday and taking 影響 for all travel starting on or after June 1:

― No more 灯火管制/停電 days for redeeming miles on US 航空路s, matching the 政策 at American.

― For U.S. travel on or after June 1, American members can redeem miles for an unrestricted "AAnytime" award at 20,000 miles, 30,000 miles or 50,000 each way instead of the 現在の 25,000-mile flat 率. The いっそう少なく-柔軟な "MileSAAver"awards will continue to start at 12,500 miles.

― Mile 必要物/必要条件s will change on many international trips.

― There will be no more 解放する/自由な checked 捕らえる、獲得するs for American 航空機によるs 乗客s traveling on miles they earned or who paid 十分な price for an economy seat.

― Some エリート-level たびたび(訪れる) fliers on both 航空機によるs will get to check one いっそう少なく 解放する/自由な 捕らえる、獲得する than before.

― The 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 for a second checked 捕らえる、獲得する on trips to South America is 存在 dropped.

Suzanne Rubin, a 副/悪徳行為 大統領,/社長 at American 航空機によるs Group Inc. who 監督するs the 忠義 programs, said in an interview that the changes will 増加する 歳入, but she 拒絶する/低下するd to give a 人物/姿/数字.

Brian Karimzad, director of the MileCards.com website, said it's good news that American didn't make many changes to its lowest-level awards. That will help people whose travel 計画(する)s are 柔軟な enough to shop for the best 取引,協定, and contrasts with 増加するs at Delta and 部隊d 航空機によるs, he said.

Since American won't 公表する/暴露する how many seats it will make 利用できる at the MileSAAver level, Karimzad 恐れるs that American will 静かに raise prices by cutting the 供給(する) and 軍隊ing people to redeem more miles for an AAnytime award. He said that's l ong been the 政策 at US 航空路s, and its CEO and other (n)役員/(a)執行力のあるs now run American.

American's Rubin said that the cheapest awards will remain 利用できる on more than half of all travel days but not on popular ones such as the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

Karimzad's advice: Don't hoard your miles ― use them quickly because they are more likely to go 負かす/撃墜する than up in value.
