Australia signals deeper search for Malaysian jet

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) ― Australia's 首相 said Wednesday that 失敗 to find any 手がかり(を与える) in the most likely 衝突,墜落 場所/位置 of the 行方不明の Malaysia 航空機によるs jet would not (一定の)期間 the end of the search, as 公式の/役人s planned to soon bring in more powerful sonar 器具/備品 that can delve deeper beneath the Indian Ocean.

The search 調整 中心 said Wednesday a robotic 潜水艦, the U.S. 海軍's Bluefin 21, had so far covered more than 80 パーセント of the 310-square-キロメーター (120-square-mile) 海底 search zone off the Australian west coast, creating a three-dimensional sonar 地図/計画する of the ocean 床に打ち倒す. Nothing of 利益/興味 had been 設立する.

The 4.5-キロメーター (2.8-mile) 深い search area is a circle 20 キロメーターs (12 miles) wide around an area where sonar 器具/備品 選ぶd up a signal on April 8 一貫した with a 計画(する)'s 黒人/ボイコット boxes. But the 殴打/砲列s 力/強力にするing those signals are now dead.

弁護 大臣 David Johnston said Australia was 協議するing with Malaysia, 中国 and the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs on the next 段階 of the search for the 計画(する) that went 行方不明の March 8, which is likely to be 発表するd next week.

Johnston said more powerful 牽引するd 味方する-ざっと目を通す 商業の sonar 器具/備品 would probably be (軍隊を)展開する,配備するd, 類似の to the remote-controlled subs that 設立する RMS Titanic 3,800 メーターs (12,500 feet) under the 大西洋 Ocean in 1985 and the Australian WWII 難破させる HMAS Sydney in the Indian Ocean off the Australian coast, north of the 現在の search area, in 2008.

"The next 段階, I think, is that we step up with 潜在的に a more powerful, more 有能な 味方する-ざっと目を通す sonar to do deeper water," Johnston told The Associated 圧力(をかける).

While the Bluefin had いっそう少なく than one-fifth of the 海底 search area to 完全にする, Johnston 概算の that 仕事 would take another two weeks.

総理大臣 Tony Abbott said the 定期航空機's probable 衝撃 zone was a 列 of sea 床に打ち倒す 700 キロメーターs (430 miles) long and 80 キロメーターs (50 miles) wide.

He said a new search 戦略 would be 可決する・採択するd if no thing was 設立する in the 現在の 海底 search zone.

"If at the end of that period we find nothing, we are not going to abandon the search, we may 井戸/弁護士席 rethink the search, but we will not 残り/休憩(する) until we have done everything we can to solve this mystery," Abbott told reporters.

"We 借りがある it to the families of the 239 people on board, we 借りがある it to the hundreds of millions ― indeed billions ― of people who travel by 空気/公表する to try to get to the 底(に届く) of this. The only way we can get to the 底(に届く) of this is to keep searching the probable 衝撃 zone until we find something or until we have searched it as 完全に as human ingenuity 許すs at this time," he said.

The 焦点(を合わせる) of next 段階 of the seafloor search will be decided on by continuing 分析 of (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) 含むing flight data and sound (犯罪,病気などの)発見s of 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑うd beacons, Johnston said.

"A lot of this 海底 has not even been hydrographically 調査するd before ― some of it has ― but we're 飛行機で行くing blind," he said, 追加するing that the 海底 in the 周辺 of the search was up to 7 キロメーターs (4 miles) 深い.

The search 中心 said an 空気/公表する search 伴う/関わるing 10 計画(する)s was 一時停止するd for a second day because of 激しい seas and poor visibility.

But 12 ships would join Wednesday's search of an expanse covering 38,000 square キロメーターs (14,500 square miles), 中心d 1,600 キロメーターs (1,000 miles) northwest of the city of Perth.

レーダ and 衛星 data show the jet carrying 239 乗客s and 乗組員 veered far off course on March 8 for unknown 推論する/理由s during a flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing. 分析 示すs it would have run out of 燃料 in the remote section of ocean where the search has been 焦点(を合わせる)d. Not one piece of 破片 has been 回復するd since the massi ve 多国籍の 追跡(する) began.
