Sherpas leave エベレスト; some 探検隊/遠征隊s 拒む,否認する climbs

KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) ― Sherpa guides were leaving 開始する エベレスト's base (軍の)野営地,陣営 on Wednesday as part of a ストライキ に引き続いて the mountain's deadliest 災害, as some 探検隊/遠征隊 companies 発表するd that they were 取り消すing their climbs this season.

American 登山者 Ed Marzec said he saw several Sherpas leaving the base (軍の)野営地,陣営 and many others packing up their テントs. Some were 負担ing their 器具/備品 の上に a ヘリコプター that had landed at the (軍の)野営地,陣営.

"There are a lot of Sherpas leaving this morning, and in the next two days there will be a 抱擁する number that will follow," Marzec, 67, from San Diego, said by phone from the base (軍の)野営地,陣営. He said he had already decided to abandon his climb.

Tusli Gurung, a guide who was at the base (軍の)野営地,陣営 on Wednesday, 概算の that nearly half the Sherpas had already left.

The ストライキ is 確かな to 混乱に陥れる/中断させる a climbing season that was already 示すd by grief に引き続いて Friday's 災害. Sherpa guides were 運ぶ/漁獲高ing climbing gear between (軍の)野営地,陣営s when a chunk of ice tore loose and 誘発する/引き起こすd an 雪崩/(抗議などの)殺到. Thirteen 団体/死体s were 回復するd and three Sherpas still 行方不明の are 推定するd dead.

"It is just impossible for many of us to continue climbing while there are three of our friends buried in the snow," said Dorje Sherpa, an experienced エベレスト guide from the tiny Himalayan community that has become famous for its high-高度 技術s and endurance.

"I can't imagine stepping over them," he said of the three Sherpa guides who remain buried in ice and snow.

Seattle-based Alpine Ascents International 発表するd it was calling off its 探検隊/遠征隊. "We have all agreed the best thing is to not continue this season's climb, so that all can 嘆く/悼む the loss of family, friends and comrades in this 前例のない 悲劇," the company said on its website.

New Zealand-based Adventure 顧問s also said it was 取り消すing its 探検隊/遠征隊 this season.

Marzec said some smaller companies were hoping to go ahead with their climbs.

The 雪崩/(抗議などの)殺到 was 誘発する/引き起こすd when a 大規模な piece of glacier sheared away from the mountain along a section of 絶えず 転換ing ice and crevasses known as the Khumbu Icefall ― a 背信の area where overhanging immensities of ice as large as 10-story buildings hang over the main 大勝する up the mountain.

Special teams of Sherpas, known as Icefall Doctors, 直す/買収する,八百長をする ropes through what they hope to be the safest paths, and use アルミ ladders to 橋(渡しをする) crevasses. But the Khumbu 転換s so much that they need to go out every morning ― as they were doing when 災害 struck Friday ― to 修理 sections that have broken 夜通し and move the climbing 大勝する if needed.

Nepal's 政府 appeared to agree Tuesday to some of the Sherpas' 需要・要求するs in the 脅すd ストライキ, such as setting up a 救済 基金 for Sherpas who are killed or 負傷させるd in climbing 事故s, but the 基金ing 落ちるs far short of the Sherpas' 需要・要求するs.

After the 雪崩/(抗議などの)殺到, the 政府 quickly said it would 支払う/賃金 the families of each Sherpa who died 40,000 rupees, or about $415. The Sherpas said they deserved far more ― 含むing more 保険 money, more 財政上の 援助(する) for the 犠牲者s' families and new 規則s that would 確実にする 登山者s' 権利s.

On Tuesday, the 政府's 申し込む/申し出 was 修正するd to 含む a 救済 基金 to help Sherpas 負傷させるd in 登山 事故s and the families of those killed, and to 支払う/賃金 for 救助(する) during 事故s on the mountain. The 政府 said it would 在庫/株 the 基金 毎年 with 5 パーセント of its 収入s from エベレスト climbing 料金s ― 井戸/弁護士席 below the 30 パーセント the Sherpas are 需要・要求するing. Nepal earns some $3.5 million 毎年 in エベレスト climbing 料金s.

The 保険 payout for those killed on the mountain will also be 二塁打d to $15,620 (2 million rupees), the 省 of 観光旅行,事業 said ― far short of the Sherpas' 需要・要求する for $20,800.

Most 試みる/企てるs to reach the 首脳会議 are made in 中央の-May, when 天候 is most 都合のよい. If the Sherpas ボイコット(する) the season, many 登山者s will have to 没収される most or all of the money they have spent to go up エベレスト ― at a cost of $75,000 or more.

The Nepal 国家の Mountain Guide 協会 will try to 交渉する with the Sherpas and the 政府 because a total ボイコット(する) would 害(を与える) Nepal's 登山 in the long 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語, said the group's general 長官, Sherpa Pasang.

While most 登山者s have to make 多重の passes through the Icefall, moving up and 負かす/撃墜する the mountain as they acclimatize and 準備する for their 首脳会議 試みる/企てる, Sherpas make the dangerous 旅行 two dozen times or more, carrying 供給(する)s and helping (弁護士の)依頼人s 交渉する the 危険な maze of ice.

Nearly 30 登山者s have died on the Icefall since 1963, most killed in 雪崩/(抗議などの)殺到s or when they were 鎮圧するd by 抱擁する chunks of ice.

More than 4,000 登山者s have reached the 最高の,を越す of the world's highest mountain since 1953, when it was first 征服する/打ち勝つd by New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. Hundreds of people have died trying.
