Puerto Rico gov 誓約（する）s new plebiscite on status
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) ― Puerto Rico Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla said Wednesday that he will 持つ／拘留する a new plebiscite by 2016 to decide the 未来 of the island's political status.
Garcia also said that his Popular Democratic Party is working on a 鮮明度／定義 for the 高めるd 連邦／共和国 status it supports.

The U.S. 議会 would have to 認可する any change in status.

A second question asked 投票者s to choo se a status. Of the だいたい 1.3 million 投票者s who made a choice, nearly 800,000, or 61 パーセント, supported statehood. Some 437,000 支援するd 君主 解放する／自由な 協会 and 72,560 chose independence. However, nearly 500,000 left that question blank.
Nonbinding 国民投票s also were held in 1967, 1993 and 1998. 捜し出すing statehood has never 獲得するd a （疑いを）晴らす 大多数, and independence has never 得るd more than 5 パーセント of the 投票（する）.
