熟考する/考慮する: Polar 耐えるs disappearing from 重要な 地域

WASHINGTON (AP) ― A 重要な polar 耐える 全住民 fell nearly by half in the past 10年間, a new U.S.-Canada 熟考する/考慮する 設立する, with scientists seeing a 劇の 増加する in young cubs 餓死するing and dying.

Scientists from the U.S. 地質学の 調査する and 環境 Canada 逮捕(する)d, tagged and 解放(する)d polar 耐えるs in the southern Beaufort Sea from 2001 to 2010. The 耐える 全住民 shrank to about 900 in 2010, 負かす/撃墜する from about 1,600 in 2004. That area is one of two main U.S. polar 耐える 地域s.

"These 見積(る)s 示唆する to me that the habitat is getting いっそう少なく stable for polar 耐えるs," said 熟考する/考慮する lead author Jeff Bromaghin, a USGS statistician.

野性生物 biologist Steve Amstrup, who started the 熟考する/考慮する for the USGS and left to become 長,指導者 scientist at the 自然保護 group Polar 耐える International, said his 早期に 研究 in the 1980s 設立する about 1,800 polar 耐えるs in the 地域.

"The habitat was profoundly different by the late 1990s, 早期に 2000s," said Amstrup, a co-author of the 熟考する/考慮する in the 定期刊行物 生態学の 使用/適用s.

Bromaghin said only two of 80 polar 耐える cubs the team 跡をつけるd between 2004 and 2007 生き残るd. 普通は about half of cubs live.

"We 嫌疑者,容疑者/疑う that they are dying of 餓死," Bromaghin said.

In this part of the 北極の, there used to be more sea ice in the summer; that's where 調印(する)s lived, and 調印(する)s are what 耐えるs ate. With 限られた/立憲的な 接近 to the 調印(する)s, the cubs probably 餓死するd, he said.

北極の summer sea ice had been 拒絶する/低下するing since the late 1970s but "we've seen over the past 10年間, 10年間-and-a-half, the 率 of 拒絶する/低下する has really 加速するd," said 示す Serreze, director of the 国家の Snow and Ice Data 中心 in Colorado. And 2007 was "a wake-up call" for scientists because sea ice shrank to a low scientists had not 推定する/予想するd or seen before. Sea ice levels dropped even lower in 2012 and have 回復するd a tad since.

"There is definitely a 関係 here between what's happening to the 耐えるs and what's happening to the ice," said Serreze, who wasn't part of the 熟考する/考慮する.
