Ebola death (死傷者)数 up, Sierra Leone needs more beds
DAKAR, Senegal (AP) ― Sierra Leone will soon see a 劇の 増加する in 猛烈に needed Ebola 治療 beds, but it's still not (疑いを)晴らす who will staff them, によれば the 最高の,を越す 国際連合 公式の/役人 in the fight against the 病気.
Ebola has sickened more than 16,000 people of whom nearly 7,000 have died, によれば 人物/姿/数字s 解放(する)d by the World Health Organization Friday.
Sierra Leone is now 耐えるing the brunt of the 8-month-old 突発/発生. In the other hard-攻撃する,衝突する countries, Liberia and Guinea, 世界保健機構 says 感染 率s are 安定させるing or 拒絶する/低下するing, but in Sierra Leone, they're 急に上がるing. The country has been 報告(する)/憶測ing around 400 to 500 new 事例/患者s each week for several weeks.

Those 事例/患者s are concentrated in the 資本/首都, Fr eetown, its surrounding areas and the northern Port Loko 地区, which together account for about 65 パーセント of the country's new 感染s, Anthony Banbury, 長,率いる of the U.N. 使節団 for Ebola 緊急 返答, said in an interview with The Associated 圧力(をかける).
"The 批判的な gap 権利 now in those 場所s are beds. It's as simple that: We need more beds," said Banbury, who spoke by telephone from Ghana, where the 使節団 is headquartered. Only about 350 of some 1,200 約束d 治療 beds are up and running, によれば 世界保健機構 人物/姿/数字s.
Five more British-built 治療 中心s will open next month, 3倍になるing the 現在の bed capacity, によれば the U.K.'s Department for International 開発. One 近づく the 資本/首都 is already up and running.
Still, more beds alone are not enough.
"We're 関心d that the partners who have 調印するd up to operate the beds won't be able to operate them in the numbers and timeline really 要求するd," Banbury said. He is 飛行機で行くing to Sierra Leone this 週末 to 演説(する)/住所 that problem.
Sierra Leone is also dogged by 危険な burials. The 団体/死体s of Ebola 犠牲者s are 極端に contagious and the touching of dead 団体/死体s might be 責任がある as much as 50 パーセント of all new 事例/患者s, Banbury said.
Cultural practices call for dead 団体/死体s to be washed, and women's 団体/死体s are supposed to be 用意が出来ている by other women. But with very few women on burial teams, Banbury said that it appears people are washing the 団体/死体s of women before they call for them to be taken away.
Sierra Leone also needs more burial teams: 世界保健機構 numbers show that only about a 4半期/4分の1 of the teams the country needs are trained and working.
The 国際連合 had hoped that by Dec. 1 , the end of the 突発/発生 would be in sight: Two months ago, it said it 手配中の,お尋ね者 to have 70 パーセント of Ebola 事例/患者s 孤立するd and 70 パーセント of dead 団体/死体s 存在 安全に buried by that date. That would have 徹底的に 減ずるd the two ways people get 感染させるd ― through 接触する with the bodily fluids of sick people and 死体s.
World Health Organization numbers show they are 意味ありげに short of that goal and Banbury 定評のある that the 全体にわたる goal would not be met. He 強調する/ストレスd that tremendous 進歩 has been made, and many places throughout the 地域 would 会合,会う or even 越える the 的s 始める,決める.
"As long as there's one person with Ebola out there, then the 危機 isn't over and Ebola is a 危険 to the people of that community, that country, this sub-地域, this continent, this world," he said. "Our goal and what we will 達成する is getting it 負かす/撃墜する to 無, but there's no 疑問 it's going to be a long, hard fight."
