Gay couples 結婚する in once-気が進まない Alabama 郡

MOBILE, 式の. (AP) ― The 連邦の 裁判官 who overturned Alabama's gay-marriage 禁止(する) ordered a 気が進まない 郡 to begin 問題/発行するing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, signaling to probate 裁判官s across the 明言する/公表する that they should do the same.

About an hour after U.S. 地区 裁判官 Callie Granade's 判決,裁定, 動きやすい 郡 opened up its marriage license office and started 認めるing the 文書s to gay couples. Gay-権利s 支持するs said they hoped Granade's order would smooth an uneven 合法的な landscape where gay couples have been able to marry in some Alabama 郡s and not in others. However, it wasn't すぐに (疑いを)晴らす what other 裁判官s would do.

Robert Povilat and his partner Milton Persinger were the first of several couples to get a marriage license in 動きやすい 郡. They wore camellia boutonnieres and 交流d 公約するs in the atrium.

"Ecstatic. Ecstatic. We're married," Povilat said.

Randall Marshall, 合法的な director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Alabama, said his group was ready to litigate the 事例/患者 郡 by 郡, if necessary.

"We hope other probate 裁判官s will look at this and see they too could soon be a 被告 in a 訴訟 if they don't start 扱う/治療するing everybody 平等に," Marshall said.

動きやすい and other 郡s had 辞退するd to 問題/発行する the marriage licenses after Alabama 長,指導者 司法(官) Roy Moore told probate 裁判官s on Sunday they didn't have to because they were not 被告s in the 初めの 事例/患者.

Moore has argued that Granade's Jan. 23 判決,裁定 striking 負かす/撃墜する the Bible Belt 明言する/公表する's gay-marriage 禁止(する) was an 違法な 侵入占拠 on Alabama's 主権,独立.

Moore made a 指名する for himself by fighting to keep a Ten Commandments monument at a courthouse, 辞退するing to 除去する it even though a 連邦の 裁判官 ordered him to. His 抵抗 cost him his 職業, but he won re-選挙 as 裁判長 in 2012.

Moore was not at the 簡潔な/要約する 審理,公聴会 Granade held Thursday because he was not a 被告 in the civil 事例/患者. However, he was often the 支配する of the discussion.

Marshall called Moore's 指示的な, sent hours before courthouses opened Monday, a "策略" to stop gay marriage in Alabama. A telephone message left with Moore's office was not すぐに returned Thursday.

Before the 審理,公聴会, Moore was 確固たる in his belief that the 連邦の 法廷,裁判所s had intruded in the 明言する/公表する's 主権,独立.

"Once they start tampering with the 鮮明度/定義 of marriage which was given of God, there is no end to it," he said.

A long-time 支持者 of Moore's, who watched the 審理,公聴会, 予報するd that this would not be the end of the fight. Orange Beach 実業家 Dean Young 解任するd the 審理,公聴会 as a "dog and pony show."

"Eighty-one パーセント of the people 投票(する)d for a 憲法の 改正 説 marriage is between one man and one woman," Young said of the 2006 投票(する) for a gay marriage 禁止(する).

Michael Druhan, an 弁護士/代理人/検事 for 動きやすい 郡 Probate 裁判官 Don Davis, said Davis の近くにd marriage license 操作/手術s altogether this week ― even for 異性愛の couples ― rather than navigate what seemed like a 合法的な minefield of 相反する 指示的なs.

に引き続いて the 裁判官's 判決,裁定 Thursday, Tuscaloosa 郡 Probate 裁判官 Hardy McCollum said his office also will begin to 問題/発行する licenses, The Tuscaloosa News 報告(する)/憶測d.

The number of 明言する/公表するs in which gay and lesbian couples can marry has nearly 二塁打d since October, from 19 to 37, 大部分は as a result of terse 最高裁判所 orders that 許すd 地裁 判決,裁定s to become final and 拒絶するd 明言する/公表する 成果/努力s to keep marriage 禁止(する)s in place 未解決の 控訴,上告s.

The U.S. 最高裁判所 will hear oral arguments in April and is 推定する/予想するd to 問題/発行する a 判決,裁定 by June regarding whether gay couples 全国的な have a 根底となる 権利 to marry and whether 明言する/公表するs can 禁止(する) such unions.
