From SEALs to startups: Special ops drawn to Silicon Valley
SAN DIEGO (AP) ― Keith David spent years 飛行機で行くing around the globe on covert 使節団s, making life-and-death 決定／判定勝ち（する）s and 監督するing 多重の 部隊s 抑えるのをやめるing airstrikes against 謀反のs. The former 海軍 SEAL now realizes it was the perfect training for a career in Silicon Valley.
A growing number of U.S. special 軍隊s 退役軍人s are veering off the 伝統的な path of working for 私的な 安全 会社／堅いs and 法律 施行 機関s, and instead are 長，率いるing into the tech 産業. Companies are discovering their abilities to build teams and think outside the box make them a good fit for the innovative 商売／仕事s.
"It's very adaptable and 柔軟な, 特に a startup, so it's 肉親，親類d of like the Wild West where there are not a lot of 支配するs," David, 32, said of Silicon Valley, where he has worked at a ロボット工学 startup since October. "It's more about getting things done and 遂行する／発効させるing them. It's very much like the SEAL teams in that there is not a lot of 支配（する）／統制する from the 最高の，を越す 負かす／撃墜する."

There is no hard data, but anecdotally Silicon Valley 商売／仕事s and special 軍隊s' 退役軍人s say they are seeing more former SEALs, Army 特別奇襲隊員s and other special ops 捜し出すing 職業s at the likes of Facebook, Airbnb and small startups.
"Special ops work in this blend of a big 伝統的な structure and a small agile team. They grow up in this gray area that is a mix of big and stable and 急速な／放蕩な and light," Chris Fussell, a former SEAL and managing partner of the McChrystal Group 設立するd by retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal. The 協議するing 会社／堅い 作品 with Silicon Valley companies.
Former 海洋 Don Faul said he 見積（る）s 100 special 操作／手術s 退役軍人s have gone into the tech 産業 in the past year or two. Faul ― who served in a 軍隊 偵察 company, which is 類似の to the SEALs ― has worked at Google Inc., Facebook and Pinterest, and now is COO of Athos, a wearable 科学（工学）技術 startup.
The 軍の 退役軍人s fill a gap in leadership 技術s for many tech companies, 特に startups that formed around an idea and are thin on structure, Faul said.

David, who spent nine years in the 海軍, went from managing 多重の 軍の 部隊s in Afghanistan, Iraq and どこかよそで in the Middle East to directing marketing, ロボット工学 and other departments at Anki, a startup that makes smartphone-controlled toy cars.
Anki received hundreds of 再開するs when it 地位，任命するd an 開始 for a program 経営者／支配人. The company interviewed a dozen 候補者s, 含むing domain 専門家s and engineers, said Craig Rechenmacher, Anki's 長，指導者 marketing officer.
David has a degree in chemistry and biology, and did not tick off many of the 職業 資格s. But Rechenmacher said he "blew them away with his passion and his ability to translate his 軍の 技術s to the real world."
"We needed someone who could work with 多重の disciplines and bring everyone together to work for one ありふれた 見通し," he said.
Tech companies have been slow to tap into the 軍の because 退役軍人s often do not know how to market themselves, said Joe Musselman, 創立者 of The 栄誉（を受ける） 創立／基礎, which 申し込む／申し出s a 15-week course to active-義務 and retired spec ial ops to help them 移行 to their next career.
That's 特に true for 海軍 SEALs. The エリート warfighters spend years on secret 使節団s and cannot 公然と identify themselves or talk about what they do, living an 地下組織の life, unlike others in the 軍の. When they get out, they struggle to 令状 a 再開する (like putting "狙撃者" as a 技術) or learn to say something other than "I am not able to tell you about that" in an interview, Musselman said. Some have gone dressed in a 控訴 and tie and find themselves 迎える／歓迎するd by CEOs in shorts and flip-flops.
It's also an 調整 for the workplace given the public's 見解（をとる） of SEALs as either celebrities, 常習的な 殺し屋s or both.
In The 栄誉（を受ける） 創立／基礎's course, SEALs go to companies so both 味方するs can get to know each another. The San Diego-based 創立／基礎 now 申し込む／申し出s its courses in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is one of four groups to receive a 認める from Silicon Valley 投機・賭ける 資本主義者 Marc Andreessen and his wife, Laura, who want to see more 退役軍人s in tech 職業s.
On a 最近の evening, two dozen SEALs in the San Diego course discussed their 未来 計画（する）s.

"It would be an incredible 適切な時期 to work there," he said.
