Kashmiri police 直面する public wrath まっただ中に anti-India 反乱
SRINAGAR, India (AP) ― Before the 割れ目 of 夜明け and before the 抗議する人s 攻撃する，衝突する the streets to 再開する 需要・要求するs India leave Kashmir, he dressed like an ordinary man and made sure not to carry anything identifying him as police.
He joined six 乗客s in a 株d taxi outside his village in a lush pine forest 近づく the militarized 境界 that divides the Himalayan 地域 between India and Pakistan. A young woman asked if he was a policeman, 警告 that it could mean trouble for all of them if he was 設立する out by the anti-India 抗議する人s who 定期的に check IDs at 主要道路 roadblocks.

As Kashmir enters a third month of 緊張した 衝突 示すd by violent street 衝突／不一致s and almost daily 抗議するs, Indian 政府 軍隊／機動隊s 支援するd by 地元の police are 持続するing a tight 安全 lockdown throughout the 地域.
That's left the 地元の Kashmiri police, 仕事d with patrolling the streets, 集会 知能 and profiling anti-India 行動主義者s, feeling demoralized, afraid and caught in the middle between the Indian 当局 who 雇う them and the friends and neighbors who question their 忠義s.
The plainclothes officer in the taxi ― one of 12 police 公式の／役人s who spoke with the Associated 圧力（をかける） on 条件 of anonymity for 恐れる of both public 報復 and 公式の／役人 天罰 ― managed to 避ける （犯罪，病気などの）発見 until he reached his 管区 in the main city of Srinagar.
But a few days later, he said, his 同僚 wasn't so lucky. He was slapped and beaten, his 着せる／賦与するing torn, at one of the 抗議する人s' 広告-hoc 検問所s, "let go only after some 年上のs 介入するd."
Many of Kashmir's 100,000 or so police officers say they are 直面するing 増加するing 疑惑 by 地元のs since the July 8 殺人，大当り of charismatic 反逆者／反逆する leader Burhan Wani by Indian 政府 軍隊s 誘発するd the 最新の 不安.
An 現在進行中の 外出禁止令, a 一連の communication 灯火管制／停電s and the （軍隊などの）展開，配備 of tens of thousands of Indian 兵士s has so far failed to stop the 抗議するs against Indian 支配する. More than 70 非軍事のs have been killed and thousands 負傷させるd, mostly by 政府 軍隊s 解雇する／砲火／射撃ing 弾丸s and shotgun pellets. Two 地元の policemen have also been killed and hundreds other 負傷させるd during the 衝突／不一致s.
In 最近の weeks, Kashmir's 分離主義者 leaders have begun calling the police out ― 指名するing individuals as having betrayed the Kashmiri community. When one officer was 公然と （刑事）被告 of 解雇する／砲火／射撃ing a shotgun at a 抗議する 決起大会／結集させる last month, his family showed up at the home of 分離主義者 leader Syed Ali Geelani and pleaded for forgiveness.
The family of another officer （刑事）被告 of fatally 狙撃 a 抗議する人 fled their Srinagar home after it was covered with graffiti reading "殺し屋" along with the officer's 指名する.
Police 駅／配置するs are 存在 attacked with 石／投石するs and ガソリン 爆弾s. At least a dozen 駅／配置するs have been 損失d, 含むing four burnt 負かす／撃墜する. Officers' families are 直面するing いやがらせ 含むing public jeering and 言葉の 乱用.
"We get panic calls from our families about our 井戸／弁護士席-存在," said a 上級の police 公式の／役人 who 命令（する）s some 4,000 officers in the 地域. "The 状況／情勢 is やめる grim, and we're caught between the devil and the 深い sea. It tak es a lot of 成果／努力 to keep my men 動機づけるd."
More than 20 have seen their own sons 拘留するd for 参加するing in anti-India 抗議するs, によれば a 上級の officer who said he 容易にするd their 解放（する）.
"Orders flow from the 最高の，を越す, from Indian officers who have no 火刑／賭けるs here," the officer said. "We're just 収入 a living. We are 人質s to our 暮らし."
For some, the 強調する／ストレス of 存在 in a position みなすd traitorous has proven to be too much. At least two counterinsurgency 警官，（賞などを）獲得するs have 辞職するd in 最近の weeks. One of them, Waseem Ahmed, said he was afraid for his family in the southern town of Sopore after 地元の 抗議する人s had gathered outside their home. A ビデオ showing Ahmed わびるing to the （人が）群がる and 詠唱するing the スローガン "We want freedom" along with them has gone viral.
The 不快 Kashmiri police 直面する in their work has 存在するd to some extent since the late 1940s, when India and Pakistan won independence from the British empire and began fighting over 競争相手 （人命などを）奪う，主張するs to the イスラム教徒-大多数 地域.
Many Kashmiris on the India-controlled 味方する see 地元の police as 道具s of an Indian 政府 bent on 抑えるing a 普及した public 需要・要求する for the 地域's independence or 合併 with 隣接地の Pakistan.
In the 1950s and 60s, police routinely 拘留するd people for listening to 無線で通信する Pakistan. Later, they worked to scuttle anti-India political movements and break up 武装した 反乱s by infiltrating their 階級s and locking up agitators.
When the 最新の 武装した 暴動 爆発するd in 1989, police 最初 fought against it. Within a few years, as 反逆者／反逆するs began 的ing their families, many abandoned the 仕事 and stayed at their 地位，任命するs and 兵舎. Some also began sympathizing with and supporting the 反逆者／反逆する 需要・要求するs as the （選挙などの）運動をする morphed into a 十分な-育てる／巣立つd 反乱 支援するd by 大規模な public support. Dozens even joined the 反逆者／反逆する 階級s, rising to become 交戦的な 指揮官s 含むing one of Wani's の近くに 中尉／大尉／警部補s ― former police constable Naseer Pandit, killed in a gunbattle in April.
The Indian army （軍隊を）展開する，配備するd a special 次第で変わる／派遣部隊 along with 戦車／タンクs to Srinagar in 1993 to quash a いわゆる "police 反乱（を起こす）," ending with the 逮捕（する） of hundreds of officers.
But two years later, India formed a new counterinsurgency police called the Special 操作／手術s Group, 製図／抽選 most of its members from の中で Kashmiri police 公式の／役人s from the 高度に militarized and remote mountain 地域s 近づく the de-facto 国境 with Pakistan. The dreaded 軍隊 has been 広範囲にわたって （刑事）被告 by Kashmiris and human 権利s groups of some of the worst 違反s 報告（する）／憶測d during the last two １０年間s of 衝突, from 要約 死刑執行s, 拷問 and 強姦 to 持つ／拘留するing 嫌疑者，容疑者／疑うs 同様に as 非軍事のs for 身代金.
Still, the 遺産／遺物 of the Special 操作／手術s Group is something Kashmiris find hard to 許す. And 深い grudges have turned into open 敵意s, 特に during public 反乱s against Indian 支配する.
"They are 反逆者s and 抑える their own brethren to 勝利，勝つ rewards and 昇進／宣伝s from their masters," said a 非軍事の man who would only give his middle 指名する, Nabi, for 恐れる of police 報復s. "The police have turned into India's cutting-辛勝する／優位 武器 against Kashmiris. They are their 注目する，もくろむs and ears on the ground."
一方／合間, the size of Kashmir's police department has swelled from just 18,000 公式の／役人s in 早期に 1990s to more than 100,000 today. And にもかかわらず public 疑惑, many 熱望して joined for the 安定した paycheck in a 地域 beset by high 失業.

The いやがらせ "doesn't 阻止する us from doing our 職業," said the 地域's 最高の，を越す officer, Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani. "We'll do what we have to do."
Some say their 職業 is to keep the 状況／情勢 from getting worse, and to keep the 抗議する人s alive.
"We 行為／法令／行動する as a 衝撃を和らげるもの. さもなければ these (議会の) men will 結局最後にはーなる 狙撃 dozens in an 普通の／平均（する） 抗議する," one officer said, pointing to Indian 兵士s on patrol in 前線 of a shuttered storefront painted with the words "Go India, Go 支援する."
But another working beside him last week, 施行するing a nighttime 外出禁止令 in Srinagar, said that no 事柄 what good they do, they are still 存在 偉業／利用するd by India and punished at home.
"A police 職業 means pitting one Kashmiri against another," said another policeman. "At the end of the day, a Kashmiri policeman is also a 人質 of the 占領／職業."
