Kosterlitz says "it was a piece of work that I did as a very ignorant 地位,任命する-doc."

In the 1970s, Kosterlitz and David Thouless showed that, against 期待s, two-dimensional 構成要素s could 行為/行う electricity without any loss to 抵抗. That 所有物/資産/財産 is called 超伝導.

Kosterlitz told The Associated 圧力(をかける) by phone from Helsinki, where he is a visiting professor at Aalto University, that "完全にする ignorance was 現実に an advantage because I didn't have any preconceived ideas. I was young and stupid enough to take it on."

He said he got a phone call 説 he had won the prize when he was in a parking lot on his way to lunch in Helsinki.

Kosterlitz said that "I'm a little bit dazzled. I'm still trying to take it in."
