The slippers, one of four pairs made for the 1939 movie that are known to 存在する, are の中で the most popular items in the museum's collection. News of the 成果/努力s to 保存する the slippers and 衣装 was bittersweet to at least one 最高の-fan of the movie: Michael Shaw, a Los Angeles-based 演劇 coach who owned another pair of slippers. His pair was stolen in 2005 while on 貸付金 to the Judy Garland Museum in Grand 早いs, Minnesota, and has never been 設立する.

"Ever y time I hear anything about the ruby slippers, I get nauseous because I keep thinking about 地雷," Shaw, 80, told The Associated 圧力(をかける) by phone on Monday.

Shaw used to take his slippers around the country and 陳列する,発揮する them, and he also used them to raise money for charity. When not on 陳列する,発揮する, they were kept in a safety-deposit box, and he believes they were in better 形態/調整 than the Smithsonian's pair. Shaw's trove of movie memorabilia also 含むs a hat and ざん壕 coat worn by Humphrey Bogart in "Casablanca."

"I'm very happy that the Smithsonian is going to be doing this 保護, because that was my goal for years ― to save, 保存する and to put a lot of these things on 陳列する,発揮する," Shaw said.
