De Kooning 絵 fetches 記録,記録的な/記録する $66.3M in NYC

NEW YORK (AP) ― A large 絵 from one of Willem de Kooning's most 生産力のある periods sold for $66.3 million at Christie's auction of 同時代の art.

"Untitled XXV" 始める,決める a new auction 記録,記録的な/記録する for a work by the abstract expressionist artist at its sale Tuesday evening in New York. When the 絵 was auctioned in 2006, it sold for $27.1 million, then a 記録,記録的な/記録する for any work of 戦後の and 同時代の art.

Another major work at the auction was a 絵 by the German artist Gerhard Richter now owned by British singer-songwriter Eric Clapton. Christie's said "Abstract 絵" fetched just over $20 million.

De Kooning's "Untitled XXV" was 遂行する/発効させるd during a burst of creativity in the 中央の-1970s, に引き続いて a 日照り続き in the late 1960s, when the artist produced a 一連の large 絵s that were 奮起させるd by the landscape of Louse Point in Springs, New York, a bucolic hamlet in East Hampton where he moved to in 1963.

"In the '70s he 設立する new love ... and that gave him inspiration, but also his arrival in Springs where he designed and built his own studio. He had fabulous light and he was madly in love," said Brett Gorvy, Christie's 長,率いる of 戦後の and 同時代の art.

An exuberant work that bursts with color and textural 小衝突 work, "Untitled XXV" 対策 77 インチs by 88 インチs and is the artist's largest 絵.

専門家s consider de Kooning's work during this period "his most successful," Gorvy said. "It was a phenomenal period of creativity where he 基本的に produced the best 絵s since the work he was doing in the 50s."

"Untitled XXV" was sold by a European collector who 購入(する)d it 個人として in 2008. The previous auction 記録,記録的な/記録する for a de Kooning was $32 million for another 絵 from 1977. That 記録,記録的な/記録する was 始める,決める in 2013.

De Kooning died in 1997.

Richter's exuberantly colorful and textured oil-on-canvas belongs to a four-part series from 1994. One is in the 共同の collection of the Tate and the 国家の Galleries of Scotland.

Clapton acquired the other three at auction in 2001. One sold for $34.2 million in 2012 and a second for nearly $20.9 million in 2013.

Last year, a 1986 絵 by Richter, also called "Abstract 絵," sold for $46.3 million. It's an auction 記録,記録的な/記録する for a work by a living European artist.
