Scientists say reindeer may be 縮むing 予定 to warming

STOCKHOLM (AP) ― Reindeer living on the 北極の island of Svalbard are getting smaller ― and scientists say 気候 change may be the 原因(となる).

Scientists from Britain and Norway have 設立する that adult Svalbard reindeer born in 2010 重さを計る 12 パーセント いっそう少なく on 普通の/平均(する) than those born in 1994.

Ecologist Steve Albon of Scotland's James Hutton 学校/設ける says rising 気温s in the 北極の mean Svalbard is getting more rain, creating a hard ice sheet the island's reindeer can't easily break through to reach food.

Reindeer 全住民s are also 増加するing 予定 to warmer summers, stoking 競争.

Albon says 研究員s think there is a correlation between rising 気温s and reindeer 負わせる. He says more 研究 is needed to 確認する the link.

Their findings were 現在のd Monday at a 会合 of the British 生態学の Society.
