'黒人／ボイコット Mirror,' 'This Is Us,' 'Westworld' の中で year's best
NEW YORK (AP) ― In this 時代 of いわゆる 頂点（に達する） TV, the 一致する of scripted series 空気／公表するd in 2016 is の近くにing in on 500. No wonder it's so hard to 選ぶ the best 2 パーセント of the 刈る. But that doesn't mean we aren't pleased to salute our 10 particular favorites. Here's our 栄誉（を受ける） roll:
― "The A Word" (Sundance). Loving parents Alison and Paul tell themselves (and everyone else) that there's nothing wrong with Joe, their 5-year-old son. But 証拠 開始するs. And then the 避けられない truth: Joe is on the autism spectrum. This bittersweet six-episode 演劇 (with a second season 発表するd) 取引，協定s with a child growing up in 田舎の England whose striking differences from other kids 点火（する） the question: What 構成するs "normal" and what becomes of those who don't 会合，会う that 基準? A beautiful story, a terrific cast and a みごたえのある 業績／成果 by young Max Vento, who plays Joe, makes "The A Word" a unique 探検 of a family as loyal as it is in 騒動.
― "Atlanta" (FX). It takes a sure 手渡す to （手先の）技術 a series that blends a pair of young musical strivers from a downtrodden 都市の 近隣 ― while keeping the series touching, relatable and funny. In an age of TV comedy that takes 避難 in either irony, absurdity, outrageousness or mawkishness, creator-星／主役にする-writer Donald Glover has pulled off a minor 奇蹟 with this gritty little show that 炎s its own path, strewn with 後退s yet 力／強力にするd by hope. A fresh take on the hip-hop world, "Atlanta" never strikes a 誤った 公式文書，認める.

― "Billions" (Showtime). Chuck Rhoades, the powerful and perverse U.S. 弁護士／代理人／検事, is in a cage match with hedge-基金 巨人 Bobby Axelrod. The result is a delicious 演劇 of two Alpha Males butting 長，率いるs: Rhoades (played by Paul Giamatti) wants to 起訴する Axelrod for 財政上の 詐欺, while the smooth, ever-calculating Axelrod (Damian 吊りくさび) dares him to try. 追加するing to the spice is a third corner of this triangle: Rhoades' wife and Axe's 信用d 助言者 (played by Maggie Siff) who, in 直面するing her divided 忠義s, is as 堅い as either man. The result is a wealth of intrigue.
― "黒人／ボイコット Mirror" (Netflix). Six new episodes on the Netflix 場所／位置 have 補足（する）d seven hours of this nervous-making anthology 以前 空気／公表するd by British television. The brainchild of British writer-生産者-mischief-製造者 Charlie Brooker, this series 反抗するs （疑いを）晴らす 鮮明度／定義 other than to say (a) it 取引，協定s with 科学（工学）技術's sly cultural inroads, (b) it packs the mind-拡大するing punch of a latter-day "Twilight Zone," and (c) it 反映するs a 確かな , um, Brooker-esque brand of mordant humor. Every hour is different from the others while each, in its own way, is likely to leave you startled and 乱すd. It should come with a 警告: "Not To Be 行方不明になるd, But Proceed with 警告を与える."
― "十分な Frontal with Samantha Bee" (TBS). With her show teeing up for a second season in 早期に 2017, the time is past to celebrate "十分な Frontal" as an 問題／発行するs-and-comedy series hosted by (go 人物／姿／数字!) a woman. So let's just celebrate Samantha Bee, who, now even more than during her dozen years as a "Daily Show" 特派員, stays true to her 指名する: nimble and 武装した with a satirical sting for her deserving 的s. She's a bold 支持する／優勝者 of women's 利益／興味s, which are 大部分は overlooked in political humor. But guys are welcome, too. They might learn something and have a laugh, along with getting stung now and then.
― "Making a 殺害者" (Netflix). To be technical, this 10-part docuseries landed on the Netflix 場所／位置 in 中央の-December 2015. But 早期に buzz spiked into a roar in the new year. Filmed over a １０年間, it tells the riveting, true-life story of Steven Avery, who is first seen in 2003 returning home to Wisconsin's 田舎の Manitowoc 郡 after 18 years' 監禁，拘置 for 性の 強襲，強姦. After his exoneration, Avery was a 解放する／自由な man for just two years. He was then 逮捕（する）d for another 罪，犯罪 ― this time, a grisly 強姦 and 殺人. So was his teenage 甥. Are they 有罪の or 存在 鉄道／強行採決するd? It's an 逮捕（する）ing thriller of 小型の-victories and major 後退s in a 停止（させる）ing but dogged 追跡 of 司法（官）.
― "The Night Of" (HBO). This dark and irresistible 殺人 mystery 星／主役にするs John Turturro as 近づく-底（に届く）-feeding lawyer John 石／投石する who つまずくs on a righteous 事例／患者: Naz, a Pakistani-American college student implic ated as the 殺し屋 of an alluring young woman who, after a chance 遭遇（する） with him one Friday night, brought him to her bedroom. Never mind if Naz did the 罪，犯罪 (テレビ視聴者s don't find out until the end) ― the 合法的な system is stacked against him at every turn, and through the 非常に長い, often 狼狽ing 過程, 石／投石する fights on his に代わって. Though a scripted 演劇, "The Night Of" is part of a new 産む／飼育する of 法律-and-order storytelling that also spawned "Making a 殺害者" 同様に as "O.J.: Made in America."
― "O.J.: Made in America" (ESPN). Arriving two １０年間s after O.J. Simpson was acquitted of 殺人 告発（する），告訴（する）／料金s for the death of his ex-wife and her friend, this five-part 文書の series covers those 恐ろしい slayings and the いわゆる 裁判，公判 of the Century in you-ain't-seen-nothing-yet 詳細（に述べる）. But it goes even その上の, でっちあげる，人を罪に陥れるing Simpson's life and career against the racial 騒動 and Civil 権利s struggle from which he was 大部分は 絶縁するd by the warm embrace of celebrity and the white mainstream. Packed with never-before-seen （映画の）フィート数, unreported 詳細（に述べる）s and never-heard insights, it's a 事業／計画（する） that might have been 解任するd as a true-罪，犯罪 rehash. Instead, it's not only illuminating but often jaw-dropping.
― "This Is Us" (NBC). It isn't often that a scripted TV series can be credited with 存在 "人道主義者の" ― at least, not a show you can sit through without grinding your teeth. And yet this gentle ensemble 演劇 is pulling it off, and テレビ視聴者s are loving it. Here is that rare series that is neither aspirational nor derisive in how its characters are portrayed, but instead 反映するs its テレビ視聴者s at their most 好意／親善d and, 井戸／弁護士席, 人道主義者の. The intersecting 始める，決めるs of everyday characters are 描写するd by a cast 含むing Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia and 英貨の／純銀の K. Brown in a 陳列する，発揮する of middle-class 多様制 that serves as a welcome rebuttal to this polarized age. Come to think of it, maybe "This Is Us" shows us what to aspire to, af ter all.
― "Westworld" (HBO). This 長期冒険旅行 is 同時に 始める，決める in an imagined sci-fi 未来 and the reimagined Old West in the form of an epic 主題 park where lifelike robots indulge every appetite of 支払う／賃金ing guests. What 手段 of depravity does this 抑えるのをやめる in the humans who 扱う／治療する themselves to this dude ranch gone wild? And what 手段 of 激変 is 誘発する／引き起こすd when the robots 反逆者／反逆する? The series' visuals ― both its western splendor and its futuristic labs ― are spellbinding and seemingly as boundless as its thematic sprawl. Its ensemble (which 含むs Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel 支持を得ようと努めるd, Thandie Newton and Jeffrey Wright) 居住させるs an anything-goes 逃亡 with aplomb and shock value: Who ― or what ― are the heroes here?
