Angelina Jolie in Cambodia for 首相 of her new film
SIEM REAP, Cambodia (AP) - Angelina Jolie said Saturday that she hopes her new film about Cambodia under the Khmer 紅 will help educate the world about the brutality of the 1970s 政権 and shed a light on the 苦境 of young people in war zones today.
"First They Killed My Father" is based on author and human 権利s 行動主義者 Loung Ung's account of her 生き残り as a child under the 1975-79 共産主義者 Khmer 紅 政権, believed to be 責任がある the deaths of 1.7 million Cambodians from 餓死, 病気 and 死刑執行.
Speaking at a news 会議／協議会 ahead of the film's 首相, the actress-turned-director said she hopes the movie will "remind everybody that there are little Loung's all around the world today" in さまざまな war zones and corners of the world.

"Her story is their story and so this is, in many ways, 全世界の／万国共通の, and we hope that that is something that you think about 同様に," said Jolie, who directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Loung.
Jolie has had an affinity for Cambodia since she began 好意／親善 work for the U.N.'s 難民 機関 in 2001, and her eldest son, Maddox, 15, was 可決する・採択するd from the country. She also has 設立するd a 創立／基礎 to 促進する social 開発 in 田舎の Cambodia.
However, the Hollywood superstar 強調する／ストレスd that Cambodia's history is not just the war.
"I hope that the young people, when they see this film, that yes, they will learn part of their history, but I hope they also see - I hope all of you see - that this is a country of talent and art and love and beauty," Jolie said.
Maddox worked on the 生産／産物 of the movie, which was 発射 on 場所 in Cambodia in late 2015 and 早期に 2016. Jolie said that Maddox is very proud of his Cambodian 遺産 and that she and her children see Cambodia as their "second home."
"The children are very の近くに to the children who are in the film and, in fact, many of them are best friends," she said. "So, they're 簡単に happy to be 支援する with their friends. Maddox is happy to be 支援する in his country."
The film, a Netflix 初めの 生産／産物, will be shown on the streaming service later this year.
Jolie's previous directorial 事業／計画（する）s 含む the 2015 marriage 演劇 "By the Sea," in which she starred と一緒に then-husband Brad Pitt, and the 2014 生き残り story "無傷の."
