Special スポットライト: SC 共和国の／共和党のs 争う to 取って代わる Mulvaney
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The special 選挙 スポットライト has rolled on to South Carolina, where two 共和国の／共和党のs are 争う to be the party's 候補者 in the race for the seat vacated by GOP Rep. Mick Mulvaney.
In a special 選挙 最初の／主要な earlier this month, 投票者s in the 共和国の／共和党の-leaning 5th 連邦議会の 地区 south of Charlotte 拒絶するd the flamethrowers and 代案／選択肢 候補者s in a seven-way GOP 最初の／主要な selecting more mainstream 候補者s Ralph Norman and Tommy ローマ法王 to 直面する each other in Tuesday's runoff.

But while ローマ法王 has the support of several high-profile 明言する／公表する 共和国の／共和党のs and the U.S. 議会 of 商業, Norman has gotten the 支援 of more hard-権利 保守的な organizations from outside the 明言する／公表する. That vein of support 含むs Ted Cruz, who will be in the 地区 Monday to （選挙などの）運動をする for Norman, and the Club For Growth's political arm, which has run 広告s such as one slamming ローマ法王 for supporting a 計画（する） then-South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called "a backdoor 試みる／企てる to 器具／実施する Obamacare in South Carolina."
The congressional 地区, which （期間が）わたるs 11 郡s and stretches north from Columbia, had been in Democratic 手渡すs for more than 100 years until the 2010 選挙, when Mulvaney unseated longtime Democratic Rep. John Spratt, partly 予定 to redistricting after the 2010 国勢（人口）調査.
TOMMY POPE

RALPH NORMAN
Norman, a 激しく揺する Hill real 広い地所 developer, 辞職するd from his 明言する／公表する House seat earlier this year to concentrate on the congressional race. First sent to Columbia in 2004, he 辞職するd two years later, when he unsuccessfully challenged Spratt.
Re-elected to his seat in 2008, Norman became a 長，指導者 支持する for former Gov. Nikki Haley when the 共和国の／共和党の was elected 知事 in 2010. At times, he was the 単独の 投票（する） on her 味方する: in 2012, Norman cast the 孤独な 投票（する） to 支える Haley's 拒否権 on a 法案 meant to help undo a 許す 許すing Georgia to 拡大する its port in Savannah.
Haley hasn't forgotten that support. As the runoff approached, the 現在の U.N. 外交官／大使 sent a $100 出資／貢献 to Norman's （選挙などの）運動をする coffers.
