プロの／賛成の-independence Catalans: 'I've never felt Spanish'
GIRONA, Spain (AP) - To sense the 相反する 現在のs of 身元 that have led Spain to the 辛勝する／優位 of a 憲法の cliff, look no さらに先に than Girona, some 60 miles (100 キロメーターs) northeast of Barcelona. 地図／計画するs and world 政府s say it's in Spain - but many 居住（者）s consider it part of an 独立した・無所属 共和国 of Catalonia.
まっただ中に the party atmosphere of a festival 週末, many in this 脱退論者 要塞／本拠地 元気づけるd the Catalan 議会's 宣言 of independence from Spain, a country they don't regard as their own.
"I've never felt Spanish in my life," said graphic designer Anna Faure as Girona celebrated the 年次の festival of its patron saint with food, music, a carnival and 陳列する，発揮するs of the gravity-反抗するing sport of human towers, known as castells.

Faure says castells is a true Catalan tradition, a 見解（をとる） she doesn't 持つ／拘留する about Spanish icons such as bullfighting, which Catalan 当局 have tried to 禁止（する）, or Flamenco, an 輸入する from Andalucia in southern Spain.
Flamenco is 罰金, she said, but "it's not 地雷."
Many people in this northeastern 地域 of 7.5 million believe Catalonia's language, history and cultural traditions - even Catalans' ironic sense of humor - 始める，決める it apart from the 残り／休憩（する） of Spain.
That feeling of separateness has mixed with a volatile blend of 負傷させるd pride, 経済的な 苦痛 and political animosity to create a 危機 that could break up Spain.
The country has been in 憲法の 騒動 since Catalans 支援するd independence in an Oct. 1 国民投票 that was 解任するd as 違法な by Spain. When the 地域の 議会 投票（する）d Friday to 宣言する independence, Madrid 解雇する／砲火／射撃d the Catalan 政府 and called a new 選挙.
No one knows how the 危機 will end, but many Catalans feel it has been a long time coming.
"We wouldn't have arrived at this point if they had 扱う／治療するd us 井戸／弁護士席 for many years," said illustrator Judit Alguero, 表明するing a ありふれた feeling that the 当局 in Madrid are at best neglectful and at worst 敵意を持った to Catalan aspirations.
The seeds of that feeling, and of Catalonia's modern independence movement, germinated during the 権威主義者 政権 of Francisco フランス系カナダ人 between 1939 and 1975. フランス系カナダ人 banned the 公式の／役人 use of the Catalan language and 遂行する／発効させるd or 拘留するd 対立 政治家，政治屋s and ac tivists.
Stories of that repressive 時代 are part of the lore of many Catalan families.
最初の／主要な school teacher Ariadna Piferrer, whose grandmother told of 存在 beaten for speaking Catalan at school, said that by 宣言するing independence, "we are living the dream of our grandparents. And I think that's so important for us."
After フランス系カナダ人's death, Spain became a 僕主主義, and Catalonia was 認めるd a degree of 自治, with a 地域の 政府, its own police 軍隊 and 支配（する）／統制する over education. Public schools now teach まず第一に／本来 in Catalan, and 国家の symbols are flown with pride.
While Catalan 国家主義 has 繁栄するd, support for 完全な independence was not 普及した in the １０年間s after フランス系カナダ人's death. In the 早期に 2000s, 投票s 示唆するd only about 15 パーセント of Catalans 手配中の，お尋ね者 to break from Spain.
But in 最近の years, 経済的な 危機 and political 敵意 between Barcelona and Madrid have left many Catalans feeling 負傷させるd, fanning the 炎上s of 分離主義.
Many here trace their support for independence to the political and 合法的な 戦う／戦い over a 2006 自治 協定 認めるing Catalonia the status of a nation within Spain, with 税金-raising 力／強力にするs. Parts of the 協定 were struck 負かす／撃墜する by Spain's 憲法の 法廷，裁判所 in 2010, 誘発する／引き起こすing angry 抗議するs and 主要な some Catalans to believe they would never get a fair 取引，協定 from Spain.
That sense of grievance grew stronger after the 2008 全世界の 財政上の 危機 大打撃を与えるd Spain, spending 失業 急上昇するing.
Catalonia is one of the country's wealthiest 地域s, and many here feel they 支払う／賃金 more into Spanish coffers than they get 支援する.
Andrew Dowling, a specialist in Catalan history at Cardiff University in むちの跡s, said that 13,000 商売／仕事s in Catalonia went under in 2009, 押し進めるing many 穏健な Catalan 国家主義者s toward independence.
"The 財政上の 危機 made Catalans angry, that as a rich area they were 苦しむing because they had no 支配（する）／統制する over the 経済的な levers," Dowling said.< /p>
Against that 背景, Catalonia's independence movement has 証明するd adept at harnessing discontent toward Madrid. A プロの／賛成の-independence 連合 was elected in 2015 on a 約束 to 押し進める for succession, and 井戸／弁護士席-組織するd groups have brought hundreds of thousands of 抗議する人s into the streets.
Independence leaders regard the Oct. 1 国民投票 as a 委任統治（領） to separate. But 人出／投票者数 was only 43 パーセント as many プロの／賛成の-union 投票者s stayed away and Spain sent in police to shut 負かす／撃墜する 投票ing 駅／配置するs.
In some areas, police 衝突／不一致d with independence 支持者s and 除去するd 投票者s with 軍隊, 暴力／激しさ that 押し進めるd some 以前 決めかねて 投票者s into the プロの／賛成の-independence （軍の）野営地，陣営. Two leaders of the independence movement have been 刑務所，拘置所d on 告発（する），告訴（する）／料金s of sedition, to the fury of many Catalans.
For independence 支持者s, it's 証拠 that Spanish 総理大臣 Mariano Rajoy's 保守的な 政府 has not yet shed フランス系カナダ人-時代 権威主義者 勧めるs.
Dowling said "the Spanish 政府 had a notion that Catalan 国家主義 was like a souffle" that would 崩壊（する） with 投資 and 経済成長.
He said that 仮定／引き受けること led Rajoy into "a 大規模な 戦略の error," and the 厳しい reaction from Madrid has only 常習的な the 決意 of Catalan 分離主義者s.
Friday's 投票（する） by Catalonia's 議会 to 宣言する independence raised the 火刑／賭けるs その上の. Spain 答える／応じるd by 解任するing the Catalan 政府, taking direct 支配（する）／統制する and calling a 地域の 選挙 for Dec. 21.
No country has 認めるd Catalonia's independence, and European nations, the European Union and the 部隊d 明言する／公表するs all have 堅固に 支援するd the Spanish 政府.
Although プロの／賛成の-independence 軍隊s in Catalonia have shaken Spain to its 創立／基礎s, it's not （疑いを）晴らす how they can make their self-布告するd 共和国 a reality - or whether most Catalans even want them to.
Many プロの／賛成の-union Catalans believe they are a silent 大多数, 溺死するd out by noisy 支持者s of independence. Hundreds of thousands of anti-i ndependence 抗議する人s 決起大会／結集させるd Sunday in Barcelona, waving Catalan, Spanish and EU 旗s and 詠唱するing "Catalonia in Spain."
"We want to be European, we want to be Spanish and we want to be Catalan," said 18-year-old student Raul Rodriguez. Like many, he 恐れるs the 経済的な consequences of a 分裂（する）. Some 1,700 商売／仕事s have already moved their 公式の／役人 （警察，軍隊などの）本部 out of Catalonia because of the 不確定.
"We are here because we want a good 未来 and the people in the 政府 of Catalonia are destroying our 未来," Rodriguez said.
That 逮捕 contrasts with the excitement の中で 分離主義者s. In Girona, home town of 追い出すd Catalan 大統領 Carles Puigdemont, 狭くする 中世 streets are festooned in the colors of the independence movement's red, yellow and blue estelada 旗. The city hall 飛行機で行くs Catalan and EU 旗s; the Spanish one has been 除去するd.
Puigdemont was 元気づけるd by （人が）群がるs shouting "大統領!" and "Long live the 共和国!" as he walked through the city Saturday.
Puigdemont has 公約するd to 持続する "democratic 対立" to Spain's direct 支配する. Independence 支持者s 主張する they want 対話, and many say they will 注意する the call for 平和的な 抵抗 through strikes and demonstrations if Madrid does not listen.
"We are willing to take this to the 限界," said Joan Montardit, a 65-year-old photographer in Barcelona. "They have to finally understand that they need to 尊敬（する）・点 our way of 存在, our language, the way we are.
"There are two 代案／選択肢s: 対話 or truncheons," he said. "Let's see what happens."
