Funeral held for Malta 新聞記者/雑誌記者; some 公式の/役人s stay away

VALLETTA, Malta (AP) - Malta's Roman カトリック教徒 大司教 警告するd those who killed an investigative reporter with a car 爆弾 that they "would never escape the 司法(官) of God" and 勧めるd other 新聞記者/雑誌記者s Friday to 追求する the truth without 恐れる.

大司教 Charles Scicluna celebrated Daphne Caruana Galizia's funeral 集まり in the church nearest to where the 53-year-old Malta native lived before the 爆弾 爆発するd as she drove away from home on Oct. 16. More than 1,500 会葬者s packed the 発生地 and several hundred more 流出/こぼすd out into the square outside.

The family has been 声の in its 批評 of the 政府 for its 失敗 to root out the 肉親,親類d of 汚職 that Caruana Galizia covered in her blog, which was a must-read in the small Mediterranean island nation.

While 捜査官/調査官s have yet to make any 逮捕(する)s in the 事例/患者, Scicluna told Caruana Galizia's 殺し屋s to "repent before it is too late."

"Whoever took part, in one way or another, in Daphne's 殺人, I have this to tell you: However hard you try to 避ける the 司法(官) of men, you will never escape the 司法(官) of God," he said.

演説(する)/住所ing her fellow 新聞記者/雑誌記者s, the 大司教 said "do not be afraid."

"I encourage you never to grow 疲れた/うんざりした in your 使節団 to be the 注目する,もくろむs, the ears, and the mouth of the people. Do this without 恐れる and with 十分な 尊敬(する)・点 of the truth," Scicluna said. "Dear 新聞記者/雑誌記者s, we need you. We need people in your profession who are unshackled, who are 解放する/自由な, intelligent, inquisitive, honest, serene, 安全な and 保護するd."

As Caruana Galizia's 棺 was driven away from the church, the (人が)群がる broke out singing the Maltese 国家の 国家.

The Malta 政府 宣言するd Friday as a day of 国家の 嘆く/悼むing in "a 調印する that no attack on freedom of 表現 is 受託するd in Malta's 僕主主義."

At the time of her death, the 新聞記者/雑誌記者 was 直面するing 42 名誉き損 訴訟s in the Maltese 法廷,裁判所s. Most of the 事例/患者s are 推定する/予想するd to proceed. 対立 leader Adrian Delia, one of her more 最近の 支配するs, has 孤立した the five 控訴s he brought against her.
