How Russia looked during 1917 革命 _ and now

MOSCOW (AP) - With its high, 厚い 塀で囲むs and spiky towers, Moscow's Kremlin may seem like the epitome of an unassailable 要塞. The Bolsheviks thought 異なって.

When word reached Moscow that the Bolsheviks had 掴むd 力/強力にする in 1917, 革命の 軍隊/機動隊s began an 強襲,強姦 on the Kremlin. The 損失 they (打撃,刑罰などを)与えるd with 大砲 解雇する/砲火/射撃 is (疑いを)晴らす in a photo from those world-shaking days; the gates of the Nikolskaya Tower are 不正に askew and much of the tower's brickwork is 爆破d away.

A century later, the brickwork is 回復するd, the 迫撃砲 fastidiously pointed. The icon of St. Nikolai over the tower's gate, which was plastered over in the Soviet 時代, has been 暴露するd.

Photos comparing some of the ロシアの 革命's most 著名な 地元のs and their 同時代の 外見 impart an uneasy sense of duality. The scenes then and now are both remarkably 類似の and somehow 深く,強烈に different.

Two photos of Liteiny Prospekt show the same stretch of buildings - 19th-century apartment 封鎖するs in the elegant style that make the street one of St. Petersburg's most 著名な avenues. In 2017, a line of 歩行者s in casually stylish 着せる/賦与するs crosses the street; 100 years ago, that same crossing was 乗組員を乗せた by 兵士s standing at a 天然のまま バリケード.

On Moscow's Nikolskaya Street, 兵士s marching 100 years ago carry a 抱擁する 旗,新聞一面トップの大見出し/大々的に報道する extolling "共産主義." Today, tourists and shoppers have 取って代わるd the 厳しい 兵士s.

St. Petersburg's Palace Square is so little changed between then and now that only the imagination can 取って代わる the placid 訪問者s of today with the angry (人が)群がるs of a century ago.

In a half-dozen scenes compared by The Associated 圧力(をかける), one stands out for both physical and psychological contrasts. The scene in 1917 shows glum women 列d outside a food 蓄える/店 近づく Tverskaya Zastava Square in downtown Moscow, wrapped up against the 冷気/寒がらせる. Today, that building is an upscale hotel.
