Review: Sam Smith's 'Thrill of It All' is a thrill indeed

NEW YORK (AP) - Sam Smith, "The Thrill of It All" ((ワシントンの)連邦議会議事堂)

When Sam Smith debuted on the music scene in 2014, he sang beautiful and searing songs about love lapses and loneliness. There are moments you'd feel sad for him, but then you'd remind yourself not to pity the guy too much, because, wow, he has THAT VOICE.

On his sophomore album, he's still singing emotional songs, but his growth is evident. And perfectly 遂行する/発効させるd.

"The Thrill of It All" is 簡単に that - a thrill - as Smith's piecing 発言する/表明する and vivid lyrics tell stories about his 関係s and experiences over the last three years - the good, the bad, the sad and more.

"燃やすing," which 攻撃する,衝突するs straight to the heart, is one of the brightest 位置/汚点/見つけ出すs on the album, as Smith sings about the after 影響s once a 関係 has ended.

"I've been 燃やすing/Yes I've been 燃やすing/Such a 重荷(を負わせる)/This 炎上 on my chest," he sings on the piano tune, where a choir - or 層d 声のs - later comes in, bringing on a 冷気/寒がらせるing f eel.

Another 最高潮の場面 is "HIM," where Smith sounds powerful and most 確信して.

"Don't you try and tell me that God doesn't care for us/It is him I love," he sings in a 命令(する)ing トン, followed by a choir again - coming in at the 権利 time.

There's not a 行方不明になる on the 10-跡をつける album. "Say It First," about wanting your partner to say they're in love before you do, is soft and relatable, while "No Peace," a duet with unsigned singer YEBBA, is a 勝利者.

There are groovier jams, too, that will move your spirit, 含むing "One Last Song," a song for the ex you're still in love with but need to be away from, and "Baby, You Make Me Crazy," with its sing-a-long hook. At times the latter 跡をつける sounds like an advice column.

"When the person that you love just says no?/Boy, get yourself together/Move on with your life," he sings.

Smith co-wrote each of the 10 songs, and even 新採用するd new 協力者s to help him out. Malay, who has worked with Frank Ocean and Zayn, lends his 魔法 to "Midnight Train" and "Say It First"; Poo 耐える, who has written many of Justin Bieber's 攻撃する,衝突するs, co-wrote "燃やすing"; Timbaland co-produced the の近くにing 跡をつける, "Pray"; and Grammy-指名するd country singer (機の)カム co-wrote "Palace." Jimmy Napes, who worked ひどく on Smith's debut "In the Lonely Hour" and won the best 初めの song Oscar with the British singer last year, also worked on seven songs.

But at the 核心 of it all, it is Smith, and that 発言する/表明する that emotes the lyrics so perfectly. "The Thrill of It All" is everything, and more.
