UConn's Auriemma turns talk-show host in new podcast

STORRS, Conn. (AP) - UConn women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma is becoming a talk show host.

The Hall-of-Famer is not giving up his day 職業 as coach of the 11-time 国家の 支持する/優勝者 Huskies, but has 追加するd a 味方する 職業 interviewing sports 人物/姿/数字s, authors, actors, and anyone else he finds 利益/興味ing for a new podcast called "持つ/拘留するing 法廷,裁判所 with Geno Auriemma."

"I just enjoy talking about things other than this, my team, my 職業," Auriemma said. "So I thought this would be a 広大な/多数の/重要な 適切な時期 to see how many different conversations I could have that are maybe a little bit different than what you would get in a newspaper."

So far, he's 記録,記録的な/記録するd three podcasts, 含むing 雑談(する)s with Tiger 支持を得ようと努めるd and Charles Barkley. The f irst one, with Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving of and former UConn 星/主役にする 告訴する Bird of the Seattle 嵐/襲撃する, is out now.

Auriemma 雑談(する)s with the point guards for more than an hour about everything from basketball (新採用するing enticements, becoming a first-一連の会議、交渉/完成する 選ぶ, Irving's 決定/判定勝ち(する) to come to Boston) to Irving's 最近の 尋問 of whether the earth is 現実に 一連の会議、交渉/完成する.

The 63-year-old coach, who is known for his acerbic sense of humor, gets into that topic by 説 he might not have emigrated from Italy as a child had he realized, like Irving, that the earth was flat.

"I hope I can ask questions that maybe someone might not want to ask," Auriemma said. "You know, 'Tiger you were the greatest player that ever lived in the year 2000. So, hey, I'm the best player who ever lived, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to change my swing. You want to explain that?'"

Auriemma said he's hoping to get on 競技者s for 未来 shows. The idea, he said, is to 調査する what makes successful people tick.

UConn's players and former players say they aren't surprised their coach is 支店ing out in that direction.

"He's a freaking celebrity and everyone wants to talk with him," said 星/主役にする 今後 Katie Lou Samuelson. "It's 肉親,親類d of how he is. He gives these speeches all the time and what he says is 現実に what he believes. So maybe I'll listen to it, at least when my favorite guests are on."

Auriemma's podcast was 開始する,打ち上げるd, by coincidence, a day after former UConn 星/主役にする-turned 放送者 Rebecca Lobo started a podcast of her own with her husband, sports writer and author Steve Rushin.

Lobo said Aurimma's sense of humor, his 知能 and his curiosity make him a natural for the podcast world. But she 公式文書,認めるd that his 傾向 to be outspoken also could get him in some trouble.

"But that could be what makes this good, 権利?" she said. "He's is just so 利益/興味ing that I think the podcast will be really 利益/興味ing."

Lobo's podcast "Ball & Chain" 取引,協定s with the humor of marriage, family and 関係 問題/発行するs. She said, while their podcasts are very different, there could 結局 be some crossover with her former coach.

"I don't know if he'd ever want me on his podcast, but I could 全く see having him and Kathy (his wife) together come on ours to talk about marriage and one another's annoying habits," she said.
