WASHINGTON (AP) - Thousands of 連邦の 従業員s began their 週末s gripped with 疑問, uncertain of when they'll be able to return to work and how long they'll have to go without 存在 paid after a bitter political 論争 in Washington 誘発する/引き起こすd a 政府 shutdown.

Many 政府 操作/手術s will continue - U.S. 軍隊/機動隊s will stay at their 地位,任命するs and mail will get 配達するd. But almost half the 2 million 非軍事の 連邦の 労働者s will be 閉めだした from doing their 職業s if the shutdown 延長するs into Monday.

INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE

HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT

Half of the more than 80,000 従業員s will be sent home. 重要な programs will continue to 機能(する)/行事 because their 基金ing has 現在進行中の authorization and doesn't depend on 年次の 是認 by 議会. But 批判的な disruptions could occur across the 広大な 裁判権 of HHS programs - 含むing the seasonal flu program.

Medicare, which insures nearly 59 million 上級のs and 無能にするd people, will keep going. And so will Medicaid, which covers more than 74 million low-income and 無能にするd people, 含むing most nursing home 居住(者)s.

JUSTICE DEPARTMENT

Many of the nearly 115,000 司法(官) Department 従業員s have 国家の 安全 and public safety 責任/義務s that 許す them to keep working during a shutdown. Special counsel Robert Mueller's team 調査/捜査するing ロシアの 干渉 in the 大統領の 選挙 will also continue working. His office is paid for 無期限に/不明確に.

DEFENSE DEPARTMENT

The U.S. 軍の will continue to fight wars and 行為/行う 使節団s around the world, 含むing in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. And members of the 軍の will 報告(する)/憶測 to work, though they won't get paid until 議会 認可するs 基金ing.

Mattis said in a departmentwide 覚え書き Friday that "ships and 潜水艦s will remain at sea, our 航空機 will continue to 飛行機で行く and our warfighters will continue to 追求する テロリストs throughout the Middle East, Africa and South Asia."

But Mattis said during 発言/述べるs on Friday at the Johns Hopkins School of 前進するd International 熟考する/考慮するs that a shutdown will still have far-reaching 影響s on the 弁護 Department.

U.S. INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES

HOMELAND SECURITY DEPARTMENT

NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the 機関's 感染性の 病気 長,指導者, said a 政府 shutdown will be 破壊的な to 研究 and 意気込み/士気 at the 国家の 学校/設けるs of Health but will not 逆に 影響する/感情 患者s already in 医療の 熟考する/考慮するs.
