A Texas building connected to the Mexican-American Civil 権利s movement has been 指定するd as a 国家の Treasure and will 株 part of a $450,000 認める in an 成果/努力 to raise money for 回復する historic buildings 損失d by last year's ハリケーンs, the 国家の 信用 for Historic 保護 発表するd Tuesday.

The LULAC 会議 60 Clubhouse in Houston, along with an historic doctor's office in Miami and a nature 保存する in Puerto Rico, will 株 the 認める. All of the 場所/位置s were 損失d by ハリケーンs Harvey, Irma or Maria.

The clubhouse served as a 会合 place beginning in the 1950s for Mexican-American civil 権利s leaders who plotted out 重要な school desegregation 事例/患者s and 成果/努力s to fight 差別. 伝説の leaders such as 弁護士/代理人/検事s Gus Garcia, John J. Herrera and Tex-Mex restaurateur Felix Tijerina …に出席するd 会合s at the clubhouse.

The clubhouse was the 場所/位置 where 行動主義者s planned 大統領 John J. Kennedy's visit with LULAC held the night before his 暗殺. The group also created the "Little School of the 400," an idea that would later become the 連邦の 長,率いる Start program.

LULAC 国家の 大統領 Roger Rocha said the 任命 would 増加する the group's 接近 to 基金s and help create a museum to 保存する a part of Latino history.

"There's a lot of history in that building," Rocha said. "We can't lose it."

With a 国家の Treasure 任命, the LULAC clubhouse joins such 場所/位置s as the Washington 国家の Cathedral in Washington, D.C., the White Grass dude ranch in Wyoming, and Joe Frazier's Gym in Pennsylvania.

The $450,000 American 表明する 認める for the three 場所/位置s will help renovate the historic structures and 準備する them to attract 訪問者s, said Timothy McClimon, 大統領,/社長 of the American 表明する 創立/基礎. In 新規加入 to the LULAC clubhouse, the historic Dr. James M. Jackson's Office and 外科 in Miami, Florida, and さまざまな structures and landscapes within Para?so Las Lunas - a nature 保存する in Caguas, Puerto Rico - will receive 認める money.
