Civil 権利s icon, Trump critic speak at BU 開始/学位授与式

BOSTON (AP) - A civil 権利s icon and a Caribbean 政治家,政治屋 who 絡まるd with 大統領 Donald Trump 申し込む/申し出d Boston University 卒業生(する)s some choice words on America's cultural 不和s.

"We have a 権利 to know what is in the food we eat, what is in the water we drink and what is in the 空気/公表する we breathe," said U.S. Rep. John 吊りくさび, a Georgia 民主党員, who gave the university's 開始/学位授与式 演説(する)/住所 on Sunday.

吊りくさび was the leader of the 1965 "血まみれの Sunday" march across the Edmund Pettus 橋(渡しをする) in Selma, Alabama, which ended when 平和的な 抗議する人s were 残酷に attacked by police officers.

He was 逮捕(する)d 40 times in the 1960s while fighting for civil 権利s. It was "good trouble," he said.

"We are one people, we are one family, we are one house and we must never give up on our fellow human 存在s," 吊りくさび said. "We are not animals as some people 示唆する."

Boston University awarded 吊りくさび with an 名誉として与えられる doctor of 法律s degree at the 儀式. He also is scheduled to speak at Harvard University on Thursday.

吊りくさび made headlines on Saturday after he and other 黒人/ボイコット leaders threw their support behind the Massachusetts Democratic 現職の U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano, instead of 挑戦者 Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley, the first 黒人/ボイコット woman elected to the city 会議.

Carmen Yul?n Cruz, the 市長 of San Juan, Puerto Rico, spoke earlier in the day at the university's baccalaureate 儀式.
