City hopes for 活力回復 in 影響 of 詐欺 事例／患者
NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) - A remote Vermont community 負かす／撃墜する on its luck had looked 今後 in 2012 to a downtown hotel, office and 小売 space and a 研究 工場／植物 that would bring hundreds of 職業s. It now sees just a 空いている 破壊するd 封鎖する that some 居住（者）s 言及する to as "the 穴を開ける."
The redevelopment 計画（する）s fizzled when the men behind them were 告発（する），告訴（する）／料金d in 2014 with 大規模な 詐欺.
Six years later, the small city of Newport on the Canadian 国境, with a 全住民 of 4,300, is left with a 破壊するd downtown 封鎖する dotted with 穴を開けるs where building 創立／基礎s once stood. One 商売／仕事 owner called it "little Beirut."

But some have 新たにするd hopes for 活力回復. The community on the southern tip of the long, 狭くする Lake Memphremagog that reaches into Quebec is now considering using the lot as a summer arts 発生地 before more 永久の 計画（する）s are made.
"It's environmentally （疑いを）晴らすd. It's ready to be developed," said Bruce James, 長，率いる of the 明言する／公表する's North Country 議会 of 商業, based in Newport. "We need to see more people in Newport."
The heart of downtown is a two-封鎖する section of mostly older brick buildings surrounded by 近隣s of homes, some stately and historic. A short walk around the corner is the waterfront with a city ドッキングする／減らす／ドックに入れる, boardwalk and large waterfront building used for events along the lake.

The 大統領，／社長 had overseen Newport's redevelopment 計画（する）s. It was a big blow to the town that has long struggled with one of the higher 失業率s in Vermont.
Ashley Connor grew up in the area and recently returned to nearby Westfield and 作品 at the area hospital. She's pleased the dilapidated Main Street's 封鎖する that housed a 宝石類 蓄える／店, restaurant, bookstore and cafe and apartments, was torn 負かす／撃墜する.
"It was 肉親，親類d of an eyesore. We're happy that's it's gone. But now it's 肉親，親類d of like, all 権利, we're waiting for something to pop up and make Newport beautiful again," she said. "I mean, Main Street is wonderful, but we need more attraction."
着せる／賦与するing boutique owner Thomas Perry agrees the city needs more and is a beautiful place with a prime waterfront. He's noticed that more people are getting 伴う／関わるd in Newport's 活力回復 and he 推定する／予想するs the 成果／努力s will result in more shops and attractions in the city in the next few years.
This past winter, the 明言する／公表する held a 一連の 会合s in Newport where 居住（者）s talked about how to 上げる 観光旅行，事業 and what they want for their city.
Real 広い地所 顧問 David White, who has been working with the city, 述べるs it as a wonderful community with "good bones" and an "利益／興味ing downtown."
"It's got its wonderful せいにするs of Lake Memphremagog and the whole surrounding area. Jay 頂点（に達する） certainly is important, and so there are a lot of 資産s there," he said.
