Collins: 延期する 投票(する) to let Kavanaugh accuser 証言する

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - 共和国の/共和党の Sen. Susan Collins of Maine said Friday that 大統領 Donald Trump's tweet 非難するing his 最高裁判所 指名された人's accuser was "appalling" and a disservice to both the 裁判官 and the woman who has (刑事)被告 him of a long-ago 性の 強襲,強姦.

Collins, a swing 投票(する) on the 指名/任命, spoke at events in Portland, Maine, and later in New Hampshire. She said it is reasonable for Brett Kavanaugh's 確定/確認 投票(する) to be 延期するd to 許す Christine Blasey Ford to 証言する Wednesday or Thursday. She said it's important for the 司法の 委員会 to "make it as comfortable as possible," and that she agrees with some, though not all of Ford's 証言 requests.

Kavanaugh's 指名/任命 has been thrown into 疑問 by Ford's 主張s that he sexually 強襲,強姦d her when they were teens. He 否定するs the 主張s.

On Friday, Trump tweeted that if the 出来事/事件 was "as bad" as Ford says, then she or her parents should've 接触するd the police.

"I was appalled by the 大統領,/社長's tweet," Collins said in Portland. Asked later whether the tweet 傷つける the 指名/任命, Collins said, "It has not 傷つける 裁判官 Kavanaugh, but that doesn't make it appropriate. 関わりなく what the facts of this 事例/患者 証明する to be, we know that the 罪,犯罪 of 性の 強襲,強姦 is one of the most underreported 罪,犯罪s in our country. So the 大統領,/社長's 声明 was wrong and I very much wish he had no comment at all. I think it was a disservice to Dr. Ford and likely a disservice to 裁判官 Kavanaugh."

Collins spoke to reporters すぐに after the chairman of the 上院 司法の 委員会 said his パネル盤 will 投票(する) Monday on the 指名/任命 if there's no 協定 with Ford's 弁護士/代理人/検事s by 10 p.m. Friday. She said Ford's 弁護士/代理人/検事s should 答える/応じる quickly, but did not 直接/まっすぐに answer whether she 同意しないd with scheduling a 投票(する) for Monday if the 最終期限 isn't met.

Collins said she agrees that Ford should be 許すd to 証言する later in the week without Kavanaugh 現在の and has recommended that lawyers for the two 味方するs be 許すd to do the 尋問. Collins said she 同意しないs with the request that Ford 証言する after Kavanaugh, and that it would be reasonable to bring in outside counsel during the 証言 to help it go as 滑らかに as possible.

A few dozen デモ参加者/実演宣伝者s …に出席するd Friday's event in Portland, at a 上級の living 施設 called The Cedars. They held 調印するs with スローガンs such as "Be A Hero" and "Listen To Women." In New Hampshire, Collins said she has 組み立てる/集結するd a team of 19 弁護士/代理人/検事s to help her understand Kavanaugh's 記録,記録的な/記録する and was about 95 パーセント finished with her 分析 when she spoke to him by phone Sept. 14, after the 主張s against him became known but before Ford (機の)カム 今後 公然と.

"I 認める how 輸入する this 決定/判定勝ち(する) is. I want to make sure I've been 極端に 徹底的な," she said. "Do I feel 圧力? Sure. But I don't feel 圧力 to make a 決定/判定勝ち(する) until I'm ready."

Another New England 上院議員, Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, also slammed Trump's 批評 of Ford on Friday. Shaheen tweeted that Trump's tweet was "乱すing" and the 大統領,/社長 should "put 負かす/撃墜する his phone" and "call for an 連邦検察局 調査" if he wants to get to the 底(に届く) of Ford's 主張s.

Collins spoke later Friday at an event at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, where much of the discussion was about Kavanaugh. Retired 最高裁判所 司法(官) David Souter was in the audience.
