Sense of impunity emboldens autocrats to get rid of enemies

BEIRUT (AP) - 独裁者s and autocrats have always sought to silence dissenters, even ones that 逃げる abroad to escape their しっかり掴む. They seem to only get bolder in turning to their playbook of 拘留,拘置, 脅しs and 殺人,大当りs.

That may in part be because, にもかかわらず 10年間s of talk of human 権利s, 違反s get only muted 政府 reproaches.

In the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs, the Trump 行政 避けるs strenuous 批評 of human 権利s 乱用s by 同盟(する)s, like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, イスラエル and the Philippines, or leaders it 捜し出すs to cultivate 関係 with, like Russia, 中国 and North Korea.

So when Turkish 公式の/役人s said they believed Saudi 新聞記者/雑誌記者 Jamal Khashoggi had been killed last week after disappearing during a visit to his country's 領事館 in Istanbul, there was good 推論する/理由 to wonder whether there would be serious repercussions.
