OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - A 弁護 弁護士／代理人／検事 told 賠審員s Wednesday that the man who was in 告発（する），告訴（する）／料金 of an Oakland, California, 倉庫／問屋 where three dozen people died in a 解雇する／砲火／射撃 is a family man and artist who is wrongly 告発（する），告訴（する）／料金d.
"My （弁護士の）依頼人 is not some despot, 教団 leader, manipulator of the truth," 弁護 lawyer Tony Serra said of Derick Almena, who is 告発（する），告訴（する）／料金d with 36 counts of involuntary 過失致死 in 関係 with a Dec. 2, 2016, 解雇する／砲火／射撃 in a 倉庫／問屋 that occurred during an unpermitted concert.
Serra 非難するd Oakland building department 公式の／役人s for failing to 検査／視察する the structure 毎年 as 要求するd by city 法律. The 裁判，公判 comes after a long wait for family members.
"We have been living on 噂するs, and we just want the truth," Colleen Dolan, the mother of 犠牲者 Chelsea Dolan, said Tuesday, as 開始 声明s began.
David Gregory, the father of 犠牲者 Michela Gregory, said Tuesday that "we just hope the 賠審員s see what we see. ... I just hope they listen to the facts."
Gregory was one of the 犠牲者s' 親族s who complained last year that a 提案するd 嘆願 取引，協定 the 被告s agreed that called for Almena to serve nine years in 刑務所，拘置所 and Harris to serve six was too lenient. A 裁判官, after listening to Gregory and several other grieving family members of 親族s, scuttled the 取引，協定 and ordered a 裁判，公判.
"I hope we can get to a 結論 that is going to be something?we can?all live with and 受託する," Gregory said.
Alameda 郡 検察官，検事 Casey Bates on Tuesday painted an emotional and 劇の picture of three dozen partygoers who died in a 急速な／放蕩な-moving 解雇する／砲火／射撃 at the unpermitted concert, recounting a 生存者's harrowing tale of 集まり panic and 大混乱 as choking smoke, 無 visibility and 解雇する／砲火／射撃 （海，煙などが）飲み込むd the 倉庫／問屋.
Bates said he will call a 生存者 of the 炎 to 証言する that he lived by jumping through a second-story window while the 大多数 of attendees couldn't find 出口s in time.
A 解雇する／砲火／射撃 alarm went off that night, but no one heard it, Bates said. The 倉庫／問屋 欠如（する）d sprinklers to slow the 炎 that would have given people had time to escape, he said. The two 被告s are also （刑事）被告 of failing to 供給する 適する safety 器具／備品, 出口s and signage.
"They died because they had no notice, no time and no 出口s," Bates said.
Family members wept and clutched each other as Bates read the 指名する and showed a photo of each 犠牲者.
In his 開始 声明, Harris' 弁護士／代理人／検事, Curtis Briggs, sought to distance his （弁護士の）依頼人 from Almena and raised the 可能性 of 放火（罪） as he tried to 転換 非難する to others.

They both pleaded no contest to 36 counts of 過失致死 last summer. The men could 直面する up to 36 years each if 罪人／有罪を宣告するd on all counts.
