Mexico's tequila 輸出業者s warily 注目する,もくろむ US 関税s 最終期限

EL ARENAL, Mexico (AP) - After 10年間s of building a 国内の market for Tequila Cascahu?n, Salvador Rosales readied the family 商売/仕事 for a 急落(する),激減(する) into the U.S. 輸出(する) market this year. He made sure he had a stable 供給(する) of high-質 blue agave, the succulent whose juice is distilled into tequila, so that once they 工場/植物d their 旗, they wouldn't disappoint.

Tequila Cascahu?n 想像するd 輸出(する)ing about 350 to 420 事例/患者s to the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs this year and building from there. But those 計画(する)s could be derailed by 大統領 Donald Trump's 脅し of 関税s starting at 5% and rising higher until he is 満足させるd Mexico is doing enough to stop the flow of Central American 移民,移住(する)s through its 領土.

"We were just getting into the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs market with prices already 衝撃d by the high price of agave," Rosales said. "With this 増加する, our sales are going to 減少(する)."

Last week Trump shocked Mexico and many members of his own party with a June 10 最終期限 to 課す the 片側だけの 関税s on all Mexican 輸入するs, 潜在的に making avocados, flat 審査する TVS, cars and other 製品s more expensive for U.S. 消費者s.

輸出業者s of tequila, the 重要な 成分 in margaritas, are as worried as anyone about possible 低迷ing 歳入s and 職業 losses, 特に if 関税s were to reach the 25% 天井 laid out by Trump.

多重の tequila 産業 insiders said 個人として that some companies had been 急ぐing to 輸出(する) as much as possible ahead of Monday's 関税 最終期限. With most of this year's 全体にわたる 在庫 likely already in the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs, the biggest 衝撃 would be on next year's 供給(する).

Mexico 輸出(する)d more tequila than ever before in 2018, more than 222 million リットルs to 120 countries, said 押し通す?n Gonz?lez, director of the Tequila 規制するing 会議. Eighty-two パーセント of that - 92 gallons (350 リットルs) per minute - went to the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs. It was 価値(がある) $1.4 billion, the Distilled Spirits 会議 of the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs says.

消費者s are the ones most likely to be 攻撃する,衝突する by the brunt of 関税s as 販売人s raise prices, though some importers could decide to 吸収する some of the cost.

If 関税s do lead to a slide in sales, as Rosales and others 恐れる, it could ripple through 田舎の economies.

"It worries us because we could see the 容積/容量 衝撃d in a very, very big way," Gonz?lez said. Lower volu me would 攻撃する,衝突する agave growers, bottlers and retailers, 潜在的に 主要な to 失業 in an 産業 that 直接/まっすぐに 雇うd 70,000 people in 2018.

"What we really need to be doing now is continuing to create 田舎の 職業s ... so there isn't 移住, and it seems like all of the 対策 are 主要な toward 失業, 移住," Gonz?lez said. "Instead of attacking it, it 刺激するs it."

"It's not just going to be our Central American or South American brothers" who are driven to migrate, he continued. "It's going to be Mexicans, too. The fact that people could 潜在的に be left without work in the countryside and in the 産業 is worrisome for our country."

North of the 国境, 関心 also goes beyond the prospect of pricier margaritas.

The Distilled Spirits 会議 of the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs 恐れるs Mexico would 答える/応じる with 報復の 関税s as it did when Trump 課すd 義務s on steel and アルミ 輸入するs. At the time, Mexico slapped 関税s on American whiskey の中で other things.

"Depending on the level, 関税s on tequila 輸入するs from Mexico could result in a loss of $185 million to $859 million in 小売 sales and the 排除/予選 of 2,000 to 9,000 U.S. 職業s," the 会議 said in a 声明.

Mexico is the 10th largest market for U.S. distilled spirits 輸出(する)s.

Trump's 告示 (機の)カム the same day Mexico 発表するd it was beginning the 過程 to 批准する a new 自由貿易 協定, 需要・要求するd by Trump to 取って代わる NAFTA. Mexican 大統領 Andr?s Manuel L?pez Obrador 派遣(する)d his 外務 大臣 to Washington the next day to try to を回避する the 関税s in discussions.

At Tequila Cascahu?n, 輸出(する)s account for just 20% to 25% of 生産/産物 - but it was a growing part of the 商売/仕事, 特に as the company 拡大するd to the U.S. market.

The last week's news has left Rosales scratching his 長,率いる over how 移住 by Central Americans could 間接に 傷つける his 底(に届く) line.

"It's a topic 全く apart from the 産業," Rosales sai d, "because we don't 支配(する)/統制する 移民/移住."
