Nerveless Verstappen excels in the rain; Mercedes struggles
HOCKENHEIM, Germany (AP) - The wetter and wilder the German Grand Prix became, the more it ふさわしい Max Verstappen's nerveless 運動ing.
The 21-year-old Red Bull driver's brilliant 業績／成果 （機の）カム と一緒に a rare 崩壊（する） from Mercedes.
Verstappen mastered Sunday's 背信の 条件s on a rain-soaked 跡をつける to 調印（する） a second 勝利，勝つ in three races, and seventh of a career which appears 運命にあるd to take the ice-冷静な／正味の Dutchman to the 最高の，を越す of 決まり文句／製法 One before too long.
Verstappen raised his 握りこぶし triumphantly as he took the checkered 旗 at the Hockenheimring, finishing ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat. A jubilant Red Bull team 主要な／長／主犯 Christian Horner 述べるd his 運動ing as a "masterclass."
While Verstappen's long-称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語 未来 looks as dazzling as the orange jerseys of the 充てるd Dutch 集まりs に引き続いて their 国家の hero, he is not yet a 選手権 競争相手.
Although that's more to do with his car than with him.

Victory moved Verstappen to within 22 points of Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas 全体にわたる, but 吊りくさび Hamilton is 63 points ahead of Verstappen after 11 of 21 races. A rare blip from Mercedes, 関心ing both Bottas and Hamilton, happens as rarely as the 41 Celsius (106 F) heat which turned Hockenheim into a furnace on Friday.
Hamilton finished 11th after starting from 有利な立場（位置）, while Bottas 衝突，墜落d 近づく the end failing to 追いつく Lance Stroll.
However, Hamilton 改善するd to ninth place - 収入 two points - after stewards 手渡すd time 刑罰，罰則s to Alfa Romeo drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi, who were demoted from seventh and eighth to 12th and 13th それぞれ for an 問題／発行する relating to their clutches at the start.
"They're still miles ahead in the 選手権. It's still やめる a lot, isn't it? More than two victories," Verstappen said of Mercedes. "(But) we want to の近くに that gap and fight for victory at every 選び出す／独身 race."
Verstappen has four podiums in 11 races and has been outside the 最高の，を越す four positions only once - proof of his consistency but also that Red Bull 欠如（する）s 完全な 速度(を上げる） to challenge Mercedes every race.
Still, this was an imperious 業績／成果 from Verstappen, who 簡単に 栄えるs in the rain. He credits his father Jos Verstappen - a modest F1 driver - with helping him develop the 技術s 要求するd.
"A lot of practice from when I was young, in the wet, working many hours with my dad - who was also pretty decent in the wet," Verstappen said. "He 供給するd tips. It's also about making 決定／判定勝ち（する）s in the wet, not just 運動ing but noticing what is going on around you."
Wet 天候 原因（となる）d havoc as drivers took up to six 炭坑，オーケストラ席 stops for new tires and several 衝突，墜落d on a section of 悪名高くも slippery tarmac.
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was in 論争 for a podium, にもかかわらず starting from 10th, but switched for quicker tires and slid off the 跡をつける there, going over the gravel and into the 障壁s.
Remarkably, Hamilton had the same 事故 there moments later, mangling his 前線 wing. He （機の）カム in for a new wing and tires, but it took Mercedes by surprise and a painfully long stop cost him any chance of victory.
For Vettel it was a remarkable turnaround, and almost the opposite to last year - when he 衝突，墜落d 近づく the end after 主要な the race from 有利な立場（位置） and Hamilton won, having qualified only 14th.
The red-着せる／賦与するd Ferrari mechanics and engineers 襲う the four-time F1 支持する／優勝者, doubtless relieved after the team's botched qualifying on Saturday. Vettel could not even 始める，決める a time and Leclerc's qualifying 企て，努力，提案 was undone late in the 開会／開廷／会期, 軍隊ing him to start 10th.
"Starting last, we can certainly be very happy 回復するing," said Vettel, who is fourth in the standings, 21 points behind Verstappen 長，率いるing to next 週末's race in Hungary. "We are making mistakes and we're not where we want to be, but we need to keep believing in ourselves and I think our day will come."
Kvyat's certainly did.
It was his third career podium and, above all, a point 証明するd. The 25-year-old ロシアの driver was ruthlessly 取って代わるd at Red Bull by Verstappen after just four races of the 2016 season, and could not even get a seat in F1 last year.
The race was crazy," he said. "Incredible roller-coaster, like my whole career."
With the 跡をつける drenched, a safety car was （軍隊を）展開する，配備するd.
Just two （競技場の）トラック一周s into the race, the safety car （機の）カム out again when Sergio Perez clipped a 塀で囲む. He was one of 20 drivers who failed to finish.
Late on in the race, an exasperated Hamilton, who said he had been fighting illness, lagged in 14th s マリファナ.
"How's it got this bad?" he asked his team over race 無線で通信する.
Although the five-time F1 支持する／優勝者 伸び（る）d places 支援する, he almost did not finish the race at all, somehow 回復するing 支配（する）／統制する after spinning at 十分な 速度(を上げる） with 10 （競技場の）トラック一周s left.
Still, the extra two points moved him 41 points ahead of second-place Bottas.
Bottas will hardly have done himself any 好意s as he 企て，努力，提案s to earn a new 契約 with Mercedes for next year.
"I'm very disappointed," he said. "Unfortunately I made a mistake which lost us a lot of points."
Vettel got past Stroll and then Kvyat 滑らかに to 調印（する） a remarkable podium finish in a thrilling race.
Since Hamilton's uneventful 勝利，勝つ from 政治家 at the French GP last month, fans have had three excellent races: Austria, Britain and now here.
