巨大(な)s' Ballentine 対処するing with 狙撃 after 存在 草案d

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - The New York 巨大(な)s cornerback who was 負傷させるd hours after 存在 草案d in an April 狙撃 that (人命などを)奪う,主張するd the life of his Washburn University チーム仲間 is trying to make a career in the NFL not only for himself but also his late best friend.

Speaking to the 巨大(な)s マスコミ for the first time since the 狙撃 in Topeka, Kansas, Corey Ballentine said he is still haunted by the 無作為の late-night attack after …に出席するing an off-campus party.

The 23-year-old, who was 発射 in the 後部 end, said he thinks of Dwane Simmons almost every day and he was relieved police recently made an 逮捕(する) in the 狙撃. He said it took him a while to get his mind 支援する on football and he is seeing therapists to help him 対処する.

The 巨大(な)s advised Ballentine to skip the team's 新人 (軍の)野営地,陣営 a week after the 草案.

"There have been a lot of highs and lows," Ballentine said Sunday before the 巨大(な)s finished their first week of training (軍の)野営地,陣営. "I am trying to stay 焦点(を合わせる)d on football now. But everybody knows about the 状況/情勢 I was in. I don't want to speak on it too much out of 尊敬(する)・点 to my friend. I am trying to を取り引きする it on my own. The 巨大(な)s are helping me, I am seeing a therapists. I 肉親,親類d of realize I can't keep myself in that mental space."

Ballentine said making the NFL was always a dream for him, but now he is trying to 実行する two dreams. One for him and one for Simmons, who also was a 防御の 支援する at Washburn.

"I think he helped me get here every step of the way," Ballentine said. "When I was on the field by myself he would come out there and join me. I am doing it for both of us. If he was here now he would lo ve to see where I am at and how I am doing."

"I am going to try to keep him in my heart," Ballentine said. "At the same time, try to 努力する/競う for the good of the team and my own personal goals, just do my best."

Ballentine said he has 回復するd from his 負傷させる and he feels 100 パーセント 肉体的に.

He made one of his first 示すs in practice on Saturday, 迎撃するing a pass.

However, he said getting 全く 焦点(を合わせる)d on football took some time.

"I think about it every day 明白に because it was somebody who was in my life every day and it's hard to fill that gap," he said. "I 港/避難所't filled it yet but I am trying to move 今後. I have a lot to 遂行する here, the playbook I have to learn. I have other things to learn but I can't keep myself in that place every day. But I think about it every day. It's hard."

存在 支援する on the field has helped 緩和する his mind and help him move 今後. So did the 逮捕(する).

The Shawnee 郡 検察官 in Kansas 発表するd 概略で two weeks ago that Francisco Alejandro Mendez, 18 was 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金d with first-degree 殺人, 試みる/企てるd first-degree 殺人 and five counts of 悪化させるd 殴打/砲列 in the April 28 attack. The Kansas man is 存在 held on a $1 million 社債.

巨大(な)s coach Pat Shurmur said Ballentine is very smart and 直感的に.

"Each day, he looks a little bit more comfortable," Shurmur said. "I would say it's running 平行の with two things. 明白に, coming 支援する from the 射撃. And then also just becoming more comfortable in the 弁護. He made a play yesterday which was good, and he's 一般に been in the 権利 位置/汚点/見つけ出す. He's been competing. We're sort of pleased to this point with his 進歩."

While the 巨大(な)s have given Ballentine time to get over his 負傷させる and support him in his 回復, he knows life and the NFL are not going to wait for him.

"I think 本人自身で that it's time for me to be strong now," he said. "I can't keep thinking about that and dwelling on it, I've got to move 今後. If I want to make this team, I've got to learn the plays, I've got to 遂行する/発効させる, things like that. So, mentally I just 肉親,親類d of 転換d mentally, knowing the 義務s that I have to do, and just moving 今後 with it."

Ballentine also knows one other thing. Dwane Simmons will be with him on the 旅行.
