知事 候補者s reset for Mississippi GOP 最初の/主要な runoff

JACKSON, 行方不明になる. (AP) - Mississippi second-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves fell short of the 大多数 needed to 勝利,勝つ the 共和国の/共和党の 指名/任命 for 知事. Now 直面するing a party 最初の/主要な runoff, Reeves says he will tell 投票者s that he's the only 保守的な in the race.

His 競争相手 in the Aug. 27 runoff is 法案 Waller Jr., a retired 裁判長 of the Mississippi 最高裁判所.

"This is about 保守的なs versus 自由主義のs," Reeves, 45, told reporters Wednesday at his (選挙などの)運動をする (警察,軍隊などの)本部. "I 尊敬(する)・点 司法(官) Waller. He is a good man, but he is not a 保守的な."

In a separate news 会議/協議会 at his own (選挙などの)運動をする office, Waller said Wednesday that Reeves glosses over problems. Waller, 67, said Mississippi has a "dysfunctional" system with one of the highest-paid 明言する/公表する superintendents of education in the U.S. and some of the lowest-paid teachers. Waller also 述べるd the 明言する/公表する's 標準化するd 実験(する)ing for high school students as a "橋(渡しをする) to nowhere."

"He says that everything is 罰金 with education," Waller said of Reeves. "And, the facts are, we have over a thousand teacher vacancies."

Mississippi's fourth-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 弁護士/代理人/検事 general, Jim Hood, easily 敗北・負かすd seven low-予算 候補者s Tuesday to 勝利,勝つ the Democratic 最初の/主要な for 知事. Hood received about 69% of the 最初の/主要な 投票(する). He hopes to break the 支配する 共和国の/共和党のs have held on the 知事/長官の職 for 16 years in the 保守的な Southern 明言する/公表する.

During a news 会議/協議会 Wednesday at a school in Jackson, Hood said he will 押し進める to 増加する teachers' salaries and to 拡大する 明言する/公表する-基金d preschool programs.

Hood, 57, said he has spoken to teachers who are upset about what he called a "penny-賭け金" 支払う/賃金 raise that 国会議員s 認可するd this 選挙 year. He said Reeves and other 共和国の/共和党の leaders have bragged about students' reading 得点する/非難する/20s 増加するing even as they 非難する teachers.

"Dissing the teachers has really invigorated them, I think," Hood said.

In Tuesday's three-person 共和国の/共和党の 最初の/主要な, Reeves received about 49% to Waller's 33%. The 残り/休憩(する) went to first-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 明言する/公表する Rep. Robert Foster.

Both Waller and Foster said Mississippi should consider 増加するing the ガソリン 税金 to 支払う/賃金 for 主要道路 改良s, in 交流 for 減ずるing or 除去するing the 所得税. They both also said Mississippi should 許す working poor people to 購入(する) Medicaid ニュース報道, which would 要求する 連邦の 是認.

Reeves says he …に反対するs 増加するing the ガソリン 税金, and he is against 追加するing people to Medicaid, a 連邦の-明言する/公表する health 保険 program for the 貧困の.

Medicaid 拡大 to the working poor is an 選択 under the 連邦の health 法律 that then-大統領 Barack Obama 調印するd in 2010. Mississippi is の中で the 14 明言する/公表するs that have 拒絶するd 拡大.

Hood says Mississippi has lost billions of dollars by not 拡大するing Medicaid and that's 原因(となる)ing 財政上の 危険,危なくする for 田舎の hospitals. He says if he's elected 知事, he will 押し進める for 拡大. Hood also says Mississippi needs to spend more on 主要道路s, but he hasn't 申し込む/申し出d a 明確な/細部 提案 to 生成する money.

Mississippi, Kentucky and Louisiana are the only 明言する/公表するs electing 知事s this year.

Reeves has raised millions more dollars than anybody in the 知事's race and he's 是認するd by 共和国の/共和党の Gov. Phil Bryant, who is 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語-限られた/立憲的な.

In 新規加入 to the 共和国の/共和党の and Democratic 指名された人s, Mississippi's Nov. 5 投票(する) for 知事 will have a 憲法 Party 候補者, (頭が)ひょいと動く Hickingbottom, and an 独立した・無所属 候補者, David Singletary.
