Greenland to Trump: Thanks, but we're not for sale

TASIILAQ, Greenland (AP) - Greenlanders are giving Donald Trump the 冷淡な shoulder.

Although amused, they're definitely not warming up to the U.S. 大統領,/社長's talk of buying the semiautonomous Danish 領土.

"We see it as an 表現 of greater 利益/興味 in 投資するing in our country and the 可能性s we 申し込む/申し出," the Greenland 政府 said Friday in a short 声明. "Of course, Greenland is not for sale."

報告(する)/憶測s that Trump had spoken about the notion of buying the land 集まり, which lies between the 大西洋 and 北極の oceans, were good for a laugh, 居住(者)s said.

"He has nothing to do with Greenland," said 28-year-old Martina M.D.D. Tay, who was born and raised in Tasiilaq, a 沿岸の Greenland town of about 2,000 people. "I think it's a ridiculous idea. I think it sounds stupid."

Lars Loekke Rasmussen, who served as Danish 首相 until June, 重さを計るd in on social マスコミ, tweeting "it must be an April Fool's Day joke" that was out of season.

A Trump 同盟(する) told The Associated 圧力(をかける) on Thursday that the 共和国の/共和党の 大統領,/社長 had discussed the 購入(する) but was not serious about it. And a 共和国の/共和党の congressional 補佐官 said Trump brought up the notion of buying Greenland in conversations with American 国会議員s enough times to make them wonder, but they have not taken his comments 本気で. Both spoke on the 条件 of anonymity to discuss 私的な conversations.

"Because of the 非公式の nature of the news, the 政府 of Greenland has no その上の comments," Greenland said on its website.

The White House has not commented on the 報告(する)/憶測s, but it wouldn't be the first time an American leader tried to buy the world's largest island.

In 1946, the U.S. 提案するd 支払う/賃金ing Denmark $100 million to buy Greenland after flirting with the idea of swapping land in Alaska for 戦略の parts of the 北極の island.

When she heard that Donald Trump wants to buy Greenland, Tina Joergensen laughed.

"I thought it was a joke," said Joergensen, a native of Denmark who was 飛行機で行くing from tiny Kulusuk on Greenland's eastern coast to the larger Tasiilaq for a new 職業 as a nurse. "He can buy anything I guess, or this is what he thinks he can. But you can't - sorry. In my 見解(をとる), you can't buy a country. It's very respectless."

Jakob Ipsen was いっそう少なく than impressed with the 可能性 Trump may want to 購入(する) his nation. Ipsen has something in ありふれた with the U.S. 大統領,/社長: Both run hotels.

Ipsen's hotel is smaller than a Trump one and 供給するs 手渡すs-on service, such as finding boats and 運動ing guests around. Ipsen 公式文書,認めるd there's a history of 部外者s unsuccessfully wanting to take over the 巨大(な), mostly barren island.

"Never going to happen. They tried in 1867 without luck. They tried after World War II," Ipsen said. "It didn't happen then and it's not going to happen now."
