For 1st time in 4 years, US life 見込み rises - a little

NEW YORK (AP) - Life 見込み in the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs is up for the first time in four years.

The 増加する is small - just a month - but 示すs at least a 一時的な 停止(させる) to a downward 傾向. The rise is 予定 to lower death 率s for 癌 and 麻薬 overdoses.

"Let´s just hope it continues," said Robert Anderson, who 監督するs the 報告(する)/憶測 解放(する)d Thursday by the 中心s for 病気 支配(する)/統制する and 予防.

The 最新の 計算/見積り is for 2018 and factors in 現在の death 傾向s and other 問題/発行するs. On 普通の/平均(する), an 幼児 born that year is 推定する/予想するd to live about 78 years and 8 months, the CDC said.

For males, it's about 76 years and 2 months; for 女性(の)s 81 years and 1 month.

For 10年間s, U.S. life 見込み was on the 上昇, rising a few months nearly every year. But from 2014 to 2017, it fell わずかに or held 安定した. That was 非難するd 大部分は on 殺到するs in overdose deaths and 自殺s.

Data 解放(する)d on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 shows that U.S. life 見込み has 改善するd for the first time in?four?years, thanks to a sharp 拒絶する/低下する in the 癌 death 率 and to a 減少(する) in 致命的な 麻薬 overdoses. 自殺s continued to 増加する in 2018, as did deaths from the flu and 肺炎 during what turned out to be an 異常に bad flu year. But 拒絶する/低下するs in some other 原因(となる)s of death - most 顕著に 癌 and 麻薬 overdoses - were enough to 打ち勝つ all that, によれば the 報告(する)/憶測.

癌 is the nation´s No. 2 殺し屋, 非難するd for about 600,000 deaths a year, so even slight changes in the 癌 death 率 can have a big 衝撃. The 率 fell more than 2%, matching the 減少(する) in 2017.

"I´m a little surprised that 早い pace is continuing," said Rebecca Siegel, a 研究員 for the American 癌 Society.

Most of the 改良 is in 肺 癌 because of より小数の smokers and better 治療s, she said.

Also striking was the 減少(する) in 麻薬 overdose deaths that had 急上昇するd through 2017. The death 率 fell 4% in 2018 and the number of deaths dropped to about 67,400.

Deaths from ヘロイン and prescription painkillers went 負かす/撃墜する, however, deaths from other 麻薬s - fentanyl, コカイン and meth - continued to go up. And 予選 data for the first half of 2019 示唆する the 全体にわたる 拒絶する/低下する in overdose deaths is already slowing 負かす/撃墜する.

It's still a 危機, said Katherine 重要なs, a Columbia University 研究員. "But the fact that we have seen the first year where there´s not an 付加 増加する is encouraging."

The 国家の 拒絶する/低下する was driven b y 下落するs in 14 明言する/公表するs, the CDC's Anderson said. Those 含む 明言する/公表するs where overdose deaths have been most ありふれた, like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

In Ohio's Hamilton 郡, which 含むs Cincinnati, overdose deaths fell in 2018 and 予選 data 示すs another 減少(する) last year. 郡 health commissioner Tim Ingram credited 成果/努力s to try to 拡大する 接近 to 治療, and to 広範囲にわたって 分配する the overdose 逆転 麻薬 Narcan.

"We almost saturated our community with Narcan," he said.

国家的に, for all 原因(となる)s of death, more than 2.8 million Americans died in 2018. That´s about 26,000 more than the year before, the CDC 報告(する)/憶測 設立する. The number went up even as the death 率 went 負かす/撃墜する, because the 全住民 is growing and a large group are 退職 age baby boomers.

Other findings:

- The 10 主要な 原因(となる)s of death remained the same, with heart 病気 at No. 1. The death 率 for heart 病気 拒絶する/低下するd わずかに, by いっそう少なく than 1%.

- Death 率s also dropped for 一打/打撃, Alzheimer's 病気, chronic lower respiratory 病気s and unintentional 傷害s, which 含むs 麻薬 overdoses.

- Americans who were 65 in 2018 are 推定する/予想するd to live another 19 years and six months, on 普通の/平均(する).

- The 幼児 mortality 率 fell more than 2%, to 1 in 177 births.

- Gun-関係のある deaths 拒絶する/低下するd very わずかに, to about 39,700, thanks to a 減少(する) in 殺人s 伴う/関わるing 小火器. 自殺s with guns rose by nearly 600, to more than 24,400.

- The 自殺 death 率 攻撃する,衝突する its highest level since 1941 - about 14 per 100,000. The 率 頂点(に達する)d during the 不景気 in 1932 then mostly 拒絶する/低下するd until 2000. It's been rising most years since then.

The U.S. has the highest 自殺 率 of 11 豊富な nations 熟考する/考慮するd, によれば a separate 報告(する)/憶測 解放(する)d Thursday by the 私的な 連邦/共和国 基金. That 報告(する)/憶測 also 設立する U.S. life 見込み is two years lower that the 普通の/平均(する) for the 10 other 豊富な nations.
