AP FACT CHECK: Trump trashing ウイルス science he doesn't like
WASHINGTON (AP) - When 大統領 Donald Trump doesn't like the message, he shoots the messenger.
So it was this past week when he took very 本人自身で a 科学の 熟考する／考慮する that should give pause to anyone thinking of に引き続いて Trump's lead and ingesting a 潜在的に risky 麻薬 for the coronavirus. He branded the 熟考する／考慮する's 研究員s, 財政／金融d in part by his own 行政, his "enemy."
長，率いるing into 記念の Day 週末, Trump then 誇張するd some of his 業績／成就s for 退役軍人s' health care.
A look at 最近の rhetoric and reality as the pandemic's death （死傷者）数 approached 100,000 in the U.S.:
VIRUS DRUG
TRUMP, on why he considers hydroxychloroquine 安全な for the 治療 of COVID-19: "I´ve received a lot of 肯定的な letters and it seems to have an 衝撃. And maybe it does; maybe it doesn´t. But if it doesn´t, you´re not going to get sick or die. This is a pill that´s been used for a long time - for 30, 40 years on the malaria and on lupus too, and even on arthritis, I guess, from what I understand." - 発言／述べるs Monday.

TRUMP: "It doesn´t 傷つける people." - 発言／述べるs Tuesday after a GOP 政策 lunch.
THE FACTS: He´s wrong to 主張する there is no 危険 of 害（を与える） if people take the malaria 麻薬 to try to 妨げる a coronavirus 感染. Trump´s own health 機関s have 警告を与えるd that taking hydroxychloroquine to 突き破る off the ウイルス could be dangerous 予定 to 味方する 影響s. If the 大統領，／社長 is to be believed, he's taking the 麻薬 himself.
Trump 繰り返して has 押し進めるd hydroxychloroquine, with or without the 抗生物質 azithromycin. No large, rigorous 熟考する／考慮するs have 設立する them 安全な or 効果的な for COVID-19, and they can 原因（となる） heart rhythm problems and other serious 味方する 影響s. The Food and 麻薬 行政 has 警告するd against the 麻薬 combination and said hydroxychloroquine should only be used for the coronavirus in hospitals and 研究 settings.
Two large observational 熟考する／考慮するs, each 伴う／関わるing about 1,400 患者s in New York, recently 設立する no 利益 from hydroxychloroquine. Two new ones in the 定期刊行物 BMJ, one by French 研究員s and the other from 中国, reached the same 結論.
On Friday, a 熟考する／考慮する published by the 定期刊行物 Lancet 示唆するd that hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine, with or without an 抗生物質, did not help 入院させるd 患者s and was tied to a greater 危険 of death or heart rhythm problems. Although it was observational rather than a rigorous 実験（する）, it´s by far the largest so far to 診察する these 麻薬s in real-world settings - nearly 100,000 患者s in 671 hospitals on six continents. 研究員s 概算の that the death 率 attributable to use of the 麻薬s, with or without an 抗生物質 such as azithromycin, is 概略で 13% versus 9% for 患者s not taking them.
The 麻薬 has been 利用できる for １０年間s to 扱う／治療する the mosquito-borne illness malaria; it is also 定める／命ずるd for some lupus and arthritis 患者s.
Technically, doctors can already 定める／命ずる t he 麻薬 to 患者s with COVID-19, a practice known as off-label 定める／命ずるing. But that is not the same as the FDA 認可するing the 麻薬 特に for the pandemic, which would mean it had met the 機関´s 基準s for safety and 有効性.
FDA regulators 問題／発行するd a 警告 警報 last month in part based on 増加するd 報告（する）／憶測s of dangerous 味方する 影響s called in to U.S. 毒（薬） 支配（する）／統制する 中心s.

TRUMP: "The only 消極的な I´ve heard was the 熟考する／考慮する where they gave it - was it the VA? With, you know, people that aren´t big Trump fans gave it ...they had a 報告（する）／憶測 come out." - 発言／述べるs Monday.
TRUMP: "It was given by, 明白に, not friends of the 行政." - 発言／述べるs Tuesday at 閣議.
TRUMP: "And if you look at the one 調査する, the only bad 調査する, they were giving it to people that were in very bad 形態／調整. They were very old, almost dead. It was a `Trump enemy 声明.'" - 発言／述べるs Tuesday after GOP 政策 lunch.
THE FACTS: There´s no 証拠 of a political 陰謀（を企てる） at the Department of 退役軍人s 事件／事情／状勢s or どこかよそで to produce a 熟考する／考慮する pointing to poor 結果s for 退役軍人s who took hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 in a 企て，努力，提案 to make Trump look bad. That 熟考する／考慮する was led by 独立した・無所属 研究員s - at the University of Virginia and University of South Carolina - and 認めるs from the 国家の 学校／設けるs of Health and the Virginia school paid for the work.
The 熟考する／考慮する 解放（する）d last month 設立する no 利益 from hydroxychloroquine.
The 分析, 行為／行うd by the 研究員s with VA 是認, was not a rigorous 実験, nor was it peer-reviewed. Still, with 368 患者s, it was the largest look at hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 at the time. 研究員s 強調する／ストレスd a "広大な／多数の／重要な and 即座の need" to 行為／行う the 分析 予定 to 限られた／立憲的な 科学の 証拠 on the 麻薬's safety and "ますます 普及した use" both as a way to 妨げる COVID-19 and to 扱う／治療する it.
研究員s 分析するd 医療の 記録，記録的な／記録するs of male 退役軍人s 入院させるd with 確認するd coronavirus infe ction at VA 医療の 中心s who died or were 発射する／解雇するd by April 11. About 28% of 退役軍人s who were given hydroxychloroquine 加える usual care died, versus 11% of those getting 決まりきった仕事 care alone.
"These findings 最高潮の場面 the importance of を待つing the results of 現在進行中の 見込みのある, randomized, controlled 熟考する／考慮するs before 普及した 採択 of these 麻薬s," the 研究員s wrote.
It´s also a point that Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation´s 最高の，を越す 感染性の 病気s 専門家 and a member of the White House coronavirus 仕事 軍隊, has 繰り返して made, 勧めるing 警告を与える on the 麻薬.
"Although there is anecdotal 証拠 that hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin may 利益 people with COVID-19, we need solid data," Fauci said.
No 麻薬 has been 認可するd for 扱う／治療するing the 病気, although several have "緊急 use" authorization. Most people who get COVID-19 回復する.

TRUMP, on the 熟考する／考慮する of VA hospital data: "If you look at that phony 報告（する）／憶測 that was put in, that 報告（する）／憶測 on the hydroxyl -- was given to people that were in extraordinarily bad 条件 -- extraordinarily bad, people that were dying." - 発言／述べるs Monday.
TRUMP: "There was a 誤った 熟考する／考慮する done where they gave it to very sick people - 極端に sick people, people that were ready to die. ... And the 熟考する／考慮する （機の）カム out. The people were ready to die. Everybody was old, had bad problems with hearts, 糖尿病, and everything else you can imagine." - 発言／述べるs Tuesday at 閣議.
VA SECRETARY ROBERT WILKIE: "They did not even look at what the 大統領，／社長 just について言及するd - the さまざまな comorbidities that the 患者s who were 言及／関連d in that 熟考する／考慮する had." - 閣議 Tuesday.
WILKIE: "The 分析 did not adjust for 患者s´ 臨床の status." - letter on April 29 to 退役軍人s´ groups.
THE FACTS: Trump and his VA 長官 are incorrect. 研究員s did use 基準 統計に基づく methods to adjust for differences in the groups 存在 compared, 含むing 臨床の status and the presence of other chroni c health 条件s. They did not cherry-選ぶ only the oldest or sickest ones who took the 麻薬.
Even though the VA hospital 患者s given the 麻薬 tended to be sicker than those in the comparison group, 研究員s still saw no 利益 from the 麻薬 after taking that into account.
The 熟考する／考慮する 含むd all VA 患者s 扱う／治療するd with the 麻薬. One of the 測定s was whether it helped 妨げる the need for breathing machines. It didn't.
研究員s did not 跡をつける 味方する 影響s, but 公式文書，認めるd there was hints hydroxychloroquine might have 損失d other 組織／臓器s. The 麻薬 has long been known to have 潜在的に serious 味方する 影響s such as altering the heartbeat in a way that could lead to sudden death.
The 熟考する／考慮する 公式文書，認めるd that the median age of the 実験（する） group was over 65, meaning half the 患者s were below that and half above it.

OBESITY
HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI, D-Calif., on Trump's 声明 that he's taking hydroxychloroquine: "He´s our 大統領，／社長 and I would rather he not be taking something that has not been 認可するd by the scientists, 特に in his age group and in his, shall we say, 負わせる group - morbidly obese, they say." - interview Tuesday on CNN.
THE FACTS: Trump is not "morbidly" obese.
Trump is 73. At his last 十分な 健康診断 in February 2019 he passed the 公式の／役人 threshold for 存在 considered obese, with a 団体／死体 集まり 索引 of 30.4. によれば the 中心s for 病気 支配（する）／統制する and 予防, an 索引 of 40 or above is considered "厳しい" obesity, which some also call "morbid" obesity.

VETERANS
TRUMP: "We´ve done the greatest 職業 maybe of anything in the VA, because I got VA Choice ... 認可するd." - 発言／述べるs Monday.
TRUMP: "You know we got the 退役軍人s Choice." - 発言／述べるs Friday at 退役軍人s' event.
THE FACTS: 誤った. He didn´t get 退役軍人s Choice 認可するd; 大統領 Barack Obama did in 2014. Trump 拡大するd it, under a 2018 法律 known as the MISSION 行為／法令／行動する.

TRUMP: "Choice is when they wait for two months to see a doctor ... they go outside, they get themselves a good doctor, we 支払う／賃金 the 法案, and they get taken care of." - 発言／述べるs Friday at 退役軍人s' event.
THE FACTS: His suggestion that 退役軍人s no longer have waits for care because of the Choice program is also 誤った.
Since March, the VA 現実に has 停止（させる）d the program´s 重要な 準備／条項s that 認めるd 退役軍人s the 選択 to see 私的な doctors if they 耐えるd long 延期するs at VA, 特記する／引用するing the pandemic. 内部の VA emails 得るd by The Associated 圧力（をかける） 明らかにする／漏らす that some 退役軍人s are 存在 turned away, even when 私的な doctors are 利用できる to see them.
The program 許すs 退役軍人s to see a 私的な doctor for 最初の／主要な or mental health care if their VA wait is 20 days (28 for specialty care) or their 運動 to a VA 施設 is 30 minutes or more.
But since the program´s 拡大 in June 2018, the VA has not seen a major 増加する in 退役軍人s 捜し出すing 私的な care. Two months ago, after the coronavirus 突発／発生, the VA also took the step of 制限するing 退役軍人s´ 接近 to 私的な doctors, 特記する／引用するing the 追加するd 危険s of 感染 and 限られた／立憲的な capacity at 私的な hospitals.
Under the 一時的な 指導基準s, the VA is reviewing referrals for nonemergency care "on a 事例／患者-by-事例／患者 basis for 即座の 臨床の need and with regard to the safety of the 退役軍人 when 存在 seen in-person, 関わりなく wait time or 運動 time 適格（性）," によれば VA spokeswoman Christina Noel. The 従業員 作品 in a 田舎の 地域 that covers Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado and Oklahoma, where 私的な doctors are often 重要な to filling gaps in VA care. The person said 退役軍人s were 存在 told by their 地元の VAs they may need to wait "井戸／弁護士席 past July, August or September" for 私的な care, によれば the email, which was 供給するd to the AP on 条件 the sender not be identified.
