AP-NORC 投票: Very few Americans 支援する 十分な school 再開するing

BOSTON (AP) - 事実上の 指示/教授/教育. 委任統治(領)d masks. Physical distancing. The start of school will look very different this year because of the coronavirus - and that´s 承認する with the 広大な 大多数 of Americans.

Only about 1 in 10 Americans think daycare 中心s, preschools or K-12 schools should open this 落ちる without 制限s, によれば a new 投票 from The Associated 圧力(をかける)-NORC 中心 for Public 事件/事情/状勢s. Most think mask 必要物/必要条件s and other safety 対策 are necessary to 再開する in-person 指示/教授/教育, and 概略で 3 in 10 say that teaching kids in classrooms shouldn´t happen at all.

The findings are a sharp contrast to the picture that 大統領 Donald Trump paints as he 圧力s schools to 再開する. Trump said Wednesday that he would be "comfortable" with his son Barron and grandchildren …に出席するing school in person this 落ちる.

"I would like to see the schools open," he told reporters.

Few schools, however, 計画(する) to return to 商売/仕事 as usual. Many of the nation´s largest school 地区s have 発表するd that they´ll be 完全に 事実上の in the 落ちる or use a hybrid model that has children in classrooms only a couple of days a week.

The 投票 finds only 8% of Americans say K-12 schools should open for normal in-person 指示/教授/教育. Just 14% think they can 再開する with minor 調整s, while 46% think major 調整s are needed. Another 31% think 指示/教授/教育 should not be in person this 落ちる. It´s little different の中で the parents of school-age children.

The 投票 also shows Americans feel the same about colleges and universities 再開するing this 落ちる.

Americans show little 信用/信任 in Trump's 扱うing of education 問題/発行するs. Only 36% say they 認可する of Trump's 業績/成果, while 63% disapprove. But a stark political divide on 開始 schools 示唆するs many 共和国の/共和党のs ar e taking cues from the 大統領,/社長.

About 9 in 10 民主党員s say 要求するing students and staff to wear masks is 必須の to 再開するing, while only about half of 共和国の/共和党のs say the same. 民主党員s are 概略で twice as likely as 共和国の/共和党のs to say schools should use a mix of in-person and 事実上の 指示/教授/教育 to 減ずる the number of students in buildings, 77% to 39%.

Patty Kasbek, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, said she 猛烈に wants her two children, ages 5 and 10, to return to school. After months at home, the family is 強調する/ストレスd and anxious. But with the ウイルス 殺到するing, she doesn't see a 安全な way to 再開する.

"School shouldn´t even be considered 権利 now," said Kasbek, 40. "We need to get this under 支配(する)/統制する before we play with the ウイルス. It's just too dangerous to put our kids out there like guinea pigs."

Her 地元の school 地区 is planning to 再開する with new safety 対策, she said, but she's 選ぶing to 入会させる her children in a 事実上の school. She isn't as worried about her own health but 恐れるs that 再開するing schools could spread the ウイルス to others.

"I just see it going very 不正に, and I'm very, very worried for the teachers," said Kasbek, who considers herself a 民主党員.

The 投票 finds a 大多数 of Americans, 56%, say they are very or 極端に 関心d that 再開するing schools will lead to 付加 感染s in their communities; another 24% are somewhat 関心d.

Some, however, see little 危険. James Rivers, of Ramsey, Minnesota, said schools should 再開する without 保護の 対策 against the ウイルス. Rivers, a 共和国の/共和党の, says Trump is doing a "罰金 職業" and will have his 投票(する) in November.

"I think it should be just 商売/仕事 as usual," said Rivers, 54. "Yes, there is a COVID ウイルス, but is it any more deadly than the ありふれた flu? I don´t think so."

Rivers, who does not have school-age children, said parents who 恐れる the ウイルス can home school. "As for everybody else who isn´t afraid of a ウイルス that has a いっそう少なく than 2% chance of 存在 致命的な, s end your kid 支援する to school. Let's get it done," he said.

大多数s say it is 必須の that buildings be 殺菌するd daily, 気温 checks and 直面する masks be 義務的な and desks be spread apart if schools are to 再開する.

And 6 in 10 think a mix of in-person and 事実上の 指示/教授/教育 is necessary, to 限界 the number of students inside at one time. Some of the nation's largest 地区s, 含むing New York City's schools, 計画(する) to use that model. But Education 長官 Betsy DeVos says that fails students and taxpayers, arguing that students should be in the classroom every day.

In his (選挙などの)運動をする to 再開する schools, Trump argues that 民主党員s …に反対する it for political 推論する/理由s. He has 脅すd to 削減(する) 連邦の 基金ing for schools that fail to 再開する fully. The White House has said he wants to work with 議会 to tie 未来 救済 基金ing to 再開するing. He argues that other countries have 再開するd schools 安全に, although some he 特記する/引用するs have used the hybrid model that DeVos decried.

The Trump 行政 also has argued that it's not just about academics. Students need 接近 to meal programs and mental health services, it says.

But Trump´s 需要・要求するs put him at 半端物s with his own health 公式の/役人s. He rebuked the 中心s for 病気 支配(する)/統制する and 予防 for 解放(する)ing school 指導基準s that he said were too 堅い.

The 投票 finds about half of parents 説 they are at least somewhat 関心d about their child losing services like school lunches or 助言 because of the pandemic.

More say they are worried about their child 落ちるing behind academically: 55% are very 関心d, with another 21% somewhat 関心d.

A 大多数 of parents, 65%, are at least somewhat 関心d about their own ability to juggle 責任/義務s.

Jimmy La Londe, 70, of Hiawassee, Georgia, thinks schools should 再開する with safety 対策 that 地元の 公式の/役人s think are necessary. Still, La Londe, who considers himself a 共和国の/共和党の, said keeping schools の近くにd will only 傷つける s tudents and 怒り/怒る taxpayers.

"They have to keep the 勢い, they have to keep people used to going to school," he said. "I don´t think you can stop school forever."
