先頭 Aert (人命などを)奪う,主張するs Ventoux 行う/開催する/段階, Pogacar keeps yellow jersey

MALAUCENE, フラン (AP) - Winning the Ventoux 行う/開催する/段階 at cycling's biggest race is a rare and celebrated feat.

No wonder a 支持する/優勝者 like Wout 先頭 Aert, with 多重の 肩書を与えるs across the sport's most prestigious events, felt like he 地位,任命するd his best victory ever after mastering the daunting and grueling mountain twice in the same day at the 小旅行する de フラン on Wednesday.

近づく the 場所/位置 where his fellow ベルギー Eddy Merckx - a cycling legend with five 小旅行する 勝利,勝つs - had to be given oxygen soon after winning the 行う/開催する/段階 to Ventoux 支援する in 1970, 先頭 Aert 勝利d に引き続いて an 前例のない 二塁打 ascent of the iconic mountain.

The lively 行う/開催する/段階 also gave a 微光 of hope to the 競争相手s of race leader Tadej Pogacar that he can be taken off his perch, after the defending 支持する/優勝者 簡潔に got dropped on the second ascent but erased the 赤字 on the downhill to keep his yellow jersey.

先頭 Aert was part of a 脱退/分離 that formed in the 早期に 行う/開催する/段階s of the nearly 200-キロメーターs 行う/開催する/段階 11 in southern フラン. The one-day classic specialist and 多重の cyclo-cross world 支持する/優勝者 made his 決定的な move on the final ascent to 減少(する) his 脱退/分離 companions, then kept his advantage on the 降下/家系 主要な to the town of Malaucene.

"I know I'm not the best 登山者, but when I 選ぶ my day I know I have my chances," said 先頭 Aert. "The first time I climbed the Ventoux I was 10. It was my first big one. I was very 動機づけるd to try something today, this 地域 is really famous in Belgium, and it's a mythical 小旅行する climb."

Pogacar was fourth, one minute and 38 seconds behind. He did not lose ground on his main 競争相手s, even 増加するing his 全体にわたる lead after his closest 対抗者 at the start of the 行う/開催する/段階, Ben O'Connor, 苦しむd a hard day and dropped to fifth 全体にわたる.

But for the first time since the start of the race, Pogacar showed 証拠不十分s when he lost ground to Jonas Vingegaard 近づく the 首脳会議.

"I could not follow all the way up, it was just a little bit too much," he said. "It was a 最高の-hard, hot day."

In the end it was just a 脅す and Pogacar 持つ/拘留するs a comfortable 全体にわたる lead of five minutes and 18 seconds over Rigoberto Uran, with Vingegaard in third place, 5:32 off the pace.

"I had to stay 静める and find a new rhythm," Pogacar 追加するd. "I did not panic and that was a good thing."

At 26, 先頭 Aert is a jack of all 貿易(する)s. He can sprint, climb and time 裁判,公判, but did not fight for the general 分類, working in support of 巨大な-Visma leader Primoz Roglic. He was given more 余裕/偏流 by his team after Roglic ret 怒らせるd from the 小旅行する last week, setting his sights on a 行う/開催する/段階 勝利,勝つ.

先頭 Aert went 単独の during the second ascent of the Ventoux, about 11 キロメーターs from the 首脳会議. As he approached the finish line, he smiled to TV cameras and clenched his 握りこぶし, then raised on his pedals and yelled in 勝利 with his 武器 outstretched.

It was 先頭 Aert's fourth career 行う/開催する/段階 勝利,勝つ at the 小旅行する.

The Ventoux is part of the 小旅行する's lore. It was the 場所/位置 of an incredible scene 支援する in 2016 when four-time 支持する/優勝者 Chris Froome had to 簡潔に run toward the 首脳会議 after he 損失d his bike in a 衝突,墜落.

An epic contest between Lance Armstrong and Marco Pantani in 2000 also took place on the slopes of the "Bald 巨大(な)," where British rider Tom Simpson died in 1967 from a combination of amphetamines and alcohol.

The 行う/開催する/段階 got off to a lively start as world 支持する/優勝者 Julian Alaphilippe broke away with Nairo Quintana, but the Colombian 登山者 could not follow his pace and got dropped.

Alaphilippe was joined by a group of three riders and created a three-minute lead over the main pack across the vineyards and rolling landscape of the Luberon 地域. Behind the quartet, a group of 反対する-攻撃者s chased hard in the first big climb of the day, the Col de la Ligui?re, but could not fill the gap.

In sizzling hot 天候, Pogacar 棒 in the main pack with his yellow jersey wide open. Others tried to 冷静な/正味の 負かす/撃墜する with small 捕らえる、獲得するs of ice cubes 適用するd to their necks.

The downhill from La Ligui?re led the 脱退/分離 to the town of Sault and the start of the first ascent of the Ventoux 経由で a 22-キロメーター climb. They were joined at the 前線 by the chasing group as the real 苦しむing began.

The 主要な pack 分裂(する) with Alaphilippe and six others, 含むing 先頭 Aert, moving away 12 キロメーターs from the 首脳会議 surrounded by hordes of excited fans. Riding in rarefied 空気/公表する, Alaphilippe was first to reach the barren 首脳会議, where 渦巻くing cloud 追加するd to the ominous lunar-looking landscape.

Paced by 20 18 支持する/優勝者 Geraint Thomas and his Ineos Grenadiers チーム仲間s, the peloton struggled to 削減(する) the gap. Alaphilippe was clocked at a 最高の,を越す 速度(を上げる) of 99 km/h (61.5 mph) on the 降下/家系.

Julian Bernard took over the lead as the group went 支援する for its second ascent of Mont Ventoux, a shorter but steeper climb compared to the first. Kenny Elissonde attacked alone but his move was 反対するd by 先頭 Aert.
