More 保護: US likely to 権限を与える COVID booster 発射s

WASHINGTON (AP) - After struggling for months to 説得する Americans to get the COVID-19 ワクチン, U.S. health 公式の/役人s could soon 直面する a fresh challenge: talking vaccinated people into getting booster 発射s to 伸び(る) longer-継続している 保護 as the delta variant sends 感染s 急に上がるing again.

As 早期に as Wednesday, U.S. health 当局 are 推定する/予想するd to recommend an extra dose of the ワクチン for all Americans eight months after they get their second 発射, によれば two people who spoke to The Associated 圧力(をかける) on 条件 of anonymity to discuss 内部の 審議s.

That means the biggest ワクチン接種 運動 in U.S. history is about to get even more 広範囲にわたる.

The move is 存在 driven by both the 高度に contagious variant and 予選 証拠 that the ワクチン´s 保護の 影響 starts dropping within months.

Last week, U.S. health 公式の/役人s recommended boosters for some people with 弱めるd 免疫の systems, such as 癌 患者s and 組織/臓器 移植(する) 受取人s. If the 発射s are 拡大するd as 推定する/予想するd to other Americans, の中で the first to receive them could be health care 労働者s, nursing home 居住(者)s and other older people.

Some 専門家s have 表明するd 関心 that a new (選挙などの)運動をする calling for boosters could muddle the public health message and undercut the continuing 運動 to 勝利,勝つ over the tens of millions of Americans who are hesitant to get their first COVID-19 発射s.

Calling for third doses could discourage people who had been skeptical of the 発射´s 有効性 in the first place, Lawrence Gostin, a public h ealth specialist at Georgetown University, 警告するd on Tuesday.

"We have to really make sure that while we´re spending a lot of time and 成果/努力 on third doses that we don´t 土台を崩す our (選挙などの)運動をする for first ワクチン接種s," he said. "That´s truly the existential 危機 in the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs."

The booster (選挙などの)運動をする could also 原因(となる) ill will toward the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs: 全世界の health 公式の/役人s, 含むing the World Health Organization, have called on wealthier nations to 持つ/拘留する off on booster 発射s to 確実にする poor countries have enough ワクチン for the 初期の doses.

Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng, a South African 専門家 advising the 国際連合, 非難するd the move toward booster 発射s in the U.S., 説 it will have the 影響 of "前進するing and 深くするing the 存在するing inequities" when "there are people who are yet to receive a 選び出す/独身 発射."

But White House 圧力(をかける) 長官 Jen Psaki said the question of whether to 分配する boosters or help other nations "is a 誤った choice. We can do both."

She said the U.S. is "far and away" the biggest contributor to the 全世界の fight against COVID-19 and will "continue to be the 兵器庫 for ワクチンs" to the world.

"We also have enough 供給(する), and we have long planned for enough 供給(する), should a booster be needed for the 適格の 全住民," Psaki said.

Booster 発射s would only begin to be 治めるd 広範囲にわたって once the U.S. Food and 麻薬 行政 正式に 認可するs the ワクチンs, which are 存在 dispensed for now under what is known as 緊急 use authorization. 十分な 是認 of the Pfizer 発射 is 推定する/予想するd in the coming weeks.

More than 198 million Americans have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 ワクチン, or 70% of those who are 適格の, によれば the 中心s for 病気 支配(する)/統制する and 予防. Just under 60% of Americans 12 and older are fully vaccinated.

The ワクチン接種 運動 has been slower than the Biden 行政 had hoped for. At the same time, the variant is spreading 積極性 through unvaccinated commu nities and also 原因(となる)ing an 増加するing number of "打開 感染s" of fully inoculated people.

熟考する/考慮するs show the ワクチン remains 高度に 保護の against 厳しい COVID-19, but results from イスラエル 解放(する)d last month 示唆する its 影響 病弱なs. Its 有効性 against symptomatic 感染 頂点(に達する)d at 96% two months after 熟考する/考慮する 関係者s got their second dose. By six months, it was 負かす/撃墜する to about 84%.

イスラエル, which 排他的に 治めるd the Pfizer 発射, has been 申し込む/申し出ing a booster to people over 50 to 支配(する)/統制する its delta 殺到する. 研究員s are still trying to understand to what extent the 打開 感染s are 予定 to 病弱なing 免疫 or vulnerability to the delta variant.

The new 緊急 from U.S. 公式の/役人s 反映するs how quickly the variant has knocked the country 支援する on its heels.

On July Fourth, 大統領 Joe Biden 布告するd that the nation was 宣言するing its independence from the ウイルス. But since then, 感染s, 入院s and deaths have 増加するd 全国的な, overloading 緊急 rooms across parts of the South and West.

On Monday, Pfizer and its partner BioNTech submitted data to the FDA to support 権限を与えるing a booster 発射 for the general public. Pfizer said a small 熟考する/考慮する showed people who received a third dose had higher levels of antibodies against several 見解/翻訳/版s of the coronavirus, 含むing the delta variant. The company is working on a larger 熟考する/考慮する.

Dr. William Moss of Johns Hopkins University said more data is needed on whether 病弱なing antibody levels lead to 入院s and deaths. The antibody 研究 alone is "insufficient to call for booster doses for the general 全住民."

And Dr. Carlos del Rio, a professor at Emory University's 医療の school, said: "Our hospitals are not 十分な of people who were vaccinated six or eight months ago. Our hospitals are 十分な of the unvaccinated."

Americans who received the earliest doses of Pfizer´s ワクチン - おもに health care 労働者s and nursing home 居住(者)s - are approaching the eight-month 示す from when they received their second dose.

"There is a 関心 that the ワクチン may start to 病弱な in its 有効性," the director of the 国家の 学校/設けるs of Health, Dr. Francis Collins, said over the 週末. "And delta is a 汚い one for us to try to を取り引きする. The combination of those two means we may need boosters."

The Pfizer and Moderna ワクチンs are 治めるd in two doses. 公式の/役人s are continuing to collect (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) 同様に about the one-発射 Johnson & Johnson ワクチン, which was only 認可するd in the U.S. in late February, to 決定する when to recommend boosters.
