Column: 圧力 開始するing for FedEx Cup and Ryder Cup
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - This is one time where winning really does take care of everything.
For most players, it's all about the money.
And for a dozen or so Americans, it's about playing for no money at all.
The Northern 信用 not only is the start of the FedEx Cup プレーオフs, it's the beginning of the end for Ryder Cup qualifying. Two tournaments are left before the 最高の，を越す six Americans earn a 位置／汚点／見つけ出す on the team, and then Steve Stricker has six captain's 選ぶs a week later.
Whatever 強調する／ストレス or 圧力 a player feels depends on his position on each 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）.
The 解答 is the same for both: Play 井戸／弁護士席.

"I still think it's about 準備するing for each individual tournament as best you can," Patrick Cantlay said. "Because it's so 複雑にするd, there can be so much ebb and flow, it's not 価値（がある） trying to get caught up in all that points 商売／仕事."
Cantlay is No. 3 in the FedEx Cup. There's not much 強調する／ストレス there, at least not yet.
He is No. 11 in the Ryder Cup and after his experience in the 大統領s Cup at 王室の Melbourne, making the team is a 優先.
"The Ryder Cup, I'd love to play," he said. "That feels 全く different. That feels like the only thing that's important is the points that are going on. But the way way to do that is to take care of your 商売／仕事."
Collin Morikawa is the No. 1 seed in the FedEx Cup and No. 1 in the Ryder Cup standings, having already clinched a 位置／汚点／見つけ出す on the U.S. team, along with Dustin Johnson.
The Ryder Cup points are big because the money is big - a $9.5 million purse each of the next two weeks. Paul Azinger, the real "Captain America" in ゴルフ, doesn't get enough credit for 改造するing the U.S. system 15 years ago to base points on money.
Xander Schauffele is 持つ／拘留するing 負かす／撃墜する the sixth 位置／汚点／見つけ出す over Jordan Spieth - both 人物／姿／数字 to be at Whistling 海峡s at the end of September, even if they don't qualify automatically. Harris English and Daniel Berger are in the 最高の，を越す 10 with no Ryder Cup experience. More is at 火刑／賭ける for them.
Berger is No. 10 in the Ryder Cup and No. 20 in the FedE x Cup. A 勝利，勝つ this week at Liberty 国家の likely would move him to the 最高の，を越す of the FedEx Cup and inside the 最高の，を越す six in the Ryder Cup standings. That's a lot to take in.
"This is the advice I could give them," said Jon Rahm, who has no such 関心s as a Spaniard who is No. 5 in the FedEx Cup and has locked up a 位置／汚点／見つけ出す on the European team. "焦点（を合わせる） on playing good. Forget about the Ryder Cup and forget about East Lake. When you're going out there Thursday, have a good showing.
"If you 最高の，を越す 10 in both events, you 嘆願d your 事例／患者 to play in the Ryder Cup," he said. "And you go up in the points race."
One cup or two, that's what late summer on the PGA 小旅行する was designed to be.
"I think it´s probably the most cutthroat ゴルフ that we can have ーに関して／ーの点でs of 圧力," Schauffele said. "We always have so much to play for, and it all comes out of this."
The idea behind the FedEx Cup プレーオフs when they began in 2007 was for players to be at their best during the postseason chase for a cash 大当り - $10 million for the 勝利者 支援する then, $15 million now, rising to $18 million next year.
Playing 井戸／弁護士席 throughout the season certainly helps, which explains why Morikawa with his British Open and a World ゴルフ 選手権 肩書を与える is the 最高の，を越す seed going into the first of three postseason events.
That already earned him $2 million for 主要な the 正規の／正選手 season.

Tiger 支持を得ようと努めるd in 2007 and Spieth in 2015 are the only players who started the postseason as the No. 1 seed and won the FedEx Cup. The No. 1 seed starts at 10-under par before even hitting a 発射 at East Lake. The No. 2 seed starts at 8 under, all the way 負かす／撃墜する to the last five players at even par.
Cantlay never liked the new 判型, and he liked it even いっそう少なく after the first year in 2019. He tied for 12th at The Northern 信用. He was 走者-up at the BMW 選手権, elevating him to the No. 2 seed going into the 小旅行する 選手権.
And then Cantlay had one bad week at the wrong time. He finished 28th の中で 30 players, and with his 特別手当 start (8 under) tied for 21st. The new 判型 負傷させる up costing him more than $1.5 million.
"In this new 判型, which I think is 特に 不公平な and bad, you can have one bad week in Atlanta and it's your whole FedEx Cup finish," he said.
The 火刑／賭けるs are high. That doesn't end until FedEx Cup money is paid out, and Stricker fills out the 残り／休憩（する） of his Ryder Cup team.
