Diane Wehrle, insights director at Springboard, said: “Not surprisingly, footfall acros s UK 小売 目的地s during the week of Christmas was 意味ありげに lower than in the week before that in the final 貿易(する)ing week.

“Footfall was higher than in the same week last year, but not 意味ありげに, にもかかわらず Christmas 2021 存在 影を投げかけるd by Covid. A 重要な factor here is the 相殺する of Christmas which meant that last week began on Christmas Day ? when footfall is at its lowest ? whilst in 2021 the week began on ボクシング Day when many 蓄える/店s were open and 貿易(する)ing.

“In 2019 ? the last Christmas before Covid-19 ? the 相殺する is even greater, with Christmas Day 落ちるing part way through the week before and week 52 開始するing on 29 December 2019.

What is 重要な - and what has been an 現れるing 傾向 for several years - is that footfall on 27 December 2022 was higher than on ボクシング Day

“The week began 堅固に with footfall on ボクシング Day 2022 higher than in 2021, although some of this 伸び(る) would have been 予定 to ボクシング Day 2022 落ちるing on a Monday vs a Sunday in 2021 when 貿易(する)ing hours were more 限られた/立憲的な.

“In 新規加入 to this, a number of 蓄える/店s remained の近くにd on ボクシング Day in 2021 and the 衝撃 of Covid on people’s 乗り気 to make trips was 存在 felt.

“What is 重要な ? and what has been an 現れるing 傾向 for several years ? is that footfall on 27 December 2022 was higher than on ボクシング Day.

“その上に, footfall rose その上の on the に引き続いて two days, 頂点(に達する)ing on 29 December, with the first 拒絶する/低下する from the day before occurring on 30 December, which then continued into New Year’s Eve 2022.

“This 論証するs that whilst ボクシング Day is somewhat of a marker in the 年次の retai l calendar, the 重要な dates for 小売 spending are now the その後の days when 消費者s are likely to have 完全にするd visits with family and friends and have time to make trips out.”

She said that the only day in the week after Christmas when footfall was higher in 2022 was December 29, which fell on a Thursday last week rather than a Sunday in 2019.

Ms Wehrle 追加するd that footfall 人物/姿/数字s over Christmas had been “very 肯定的な”.

“I do think it was very 肯定的な,” she said.

“People were very 関心d about Christmas, and it was muted,” she said.

“Our 予測(する) of an 増加する over the month was muted, but 現実に given where we are with the cost of living 危機 and given where we are with the 緊張する on 世帯 予算s, what footfall was showing is that people were 用意が出来ている to go out and spend money and visit 小売 目的地s ? either to buy 小売 製品s or to go to a restaurant or 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業.”
