Hungary 罰金s bookstore chain over LGBT+ novel Heartstopper
A 政府 office in Hungary has 徴収するd a hefty 罰金 against a 国家の bookseller over LGBT+ graphic novel Heartstopper, 説 it 侵害する／違反するd a contentious 法律 that 禁じるs the depiction of homosexuality to minors.
The bookseller, リラ Konyv, is Hungary’s second-largest bookstore chain. It was 罰金d 12 million forints (£27,500) for placing the popular series by British author Alice Oseman in its 青年 literature section, and for failing to place it in の近くにd 一括ing as 要求するd by a 2021 法律.
The Budapest 主要都市の 政府 Office, which 問題／発行するd the 消費者 保護 罰金, told 明言する／公表する news 機関 MTI that it had 行為／行うd an 調査 into the 蓄える／店’s selling of the 肩書を与える.
“The 調査 設立する that the 調書をとる／予約するs in question 描写するd homosexuality, but they were にもかかわらず placed in the 部類 of children’s 調書をとる／予約するs and 青年 literature, and were not 分配するd in の近くにd 一括ing,” the office said.
The 罰金 is based on Hungary’s 2021 “child 保護” 法律, which forbids the 陳列する，発揮する of homosexual content to minors in マスコミ, 含むing television, films, 宣伝s and literature.
It also 禁じるs LGBT+ content in school education programmes, and forbids the public 陳列する，発揮する of 製品s that 描写する or 促進する gender deviating from sex at birth.

Hungary’s 政府 主張するs that the 法律, part of a broader 法令 that also 増加するs 犯罪の 刑罰，罰則s for paedophilia and creates a searchable database of sex 違反者／犯罪者s, is necessary to 保護する children. But it is seen by critics of the country’s 右翼 政府 as an 試みる／企てる to stigmatise lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
In April, 15 countries of the European Union 支援するd 合法的な 活動／戦闘 against the 法律 in the European 法廷，裁判所 of 司法（官）, and the 圏’s 最高の，を越す (n)役員／(a)執行力のある, Ursula 出身の der Leyen, has called it “a 不名誉”.
The 罰金 against リラ Konyv comes just two days before the Budapest Pride march, an 年次の event that draws thousands of LGBT+ people and their 支持者s in Hungary’s 資本／首都.
The Heartstopper series has been adapted into the Netflix television 一連の the same 指名する also written by Oseman.
In a 声明, the Budapest 主要都市の 政府 Office said it had ordered リラ Konyv to 確実にする the lawful 配当 of the 調書をとる／予約する, and that it “will always take strict 活動／戦闘 against companies that do not 従う with the 法律”.
