Pupils in small towns in England have better 教育の attainment on 普通の/平均(する) than their peers in larger towns and cities, an 分析 has 示唆するd.

The ONS 分析, which uses Longitudinal Education 結果s (LEO) data collected by the Department for Education (DfE), 結論するd that small towns had an 普通の/平均(する) 得点する/非難する/20 of 0.4 and large towns had an 普通の/平均(する) 得点する/非難する/20 of -0.9.

While smaller towns had a better 普通の/平均(する) 得点する/非難する/20, they also saw the widest 範囲 in 得点する/非難する/20s, the 研究 設立する.

Thurnscoe in South Yorkshire had a 得点する/非難する/20 of -10, while Chorleywood in Hertfordshire had a 得点する/非難する/20 of 9.4.

Just 36% of pupils in Thurnscoe 達成するd five A* to C grade GCSEs 含むing English and Maths in the school year of 2012 to 2013, while 87% did in Chorleywood, the 分析 示唆するd.

Richard Prothero, the lead statistician for the ONS 分析, said: “It’s the first time ONS has looked at young people’s 教育の attainment by the size of town in which they went to school.

“Those in smaller towns 一般に did better than those in larger towns, while those in cities, other than London and Brighton and Hove, typically had lower attainment than those in towns.

Northwood in the London borough of Hillingdon is the small town with the highest 教育の attainment 得点する/非難する/20 記録,記録的な/記録するd by the ONS (11.9), followed by East Horsley in Surrey and Olney in Buckinghamshire (both 10.8), then Burley-in-Wharfedale in West Yorkshire (9.9).

For medium-sized towns, Harpenden in Hertfordshire had the highest 得点する/非難する/20 (11.0), followed by Gerrards Cross in Buckinghamshire (10.0) and West Bridgford in Nottinghamshire (8.6).

In the ONS large towns 部類, Sutton Coldfield topped the 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) (6.4), followed by Solihull (6.1) and St Albans (5.8).

Brighton and Hove is the only city with a 肯定的な attainment 得点する/非難する/20 (0.7), the ONS 分析 示唆するd.

Along with Thurnscoe, the small towns with the lowest 得点する/非難する/20s are Sheerness in Kent (-9.8), Newbiggin-by-the-Sea in Northumberland (-9.6) and New Ollerton in Nottinghamshire (-9.4).

“We have identified 55 Education 投資 Areas with the weakest 教育の 結果s where we are making 付加 投資 to 上げる 改良s, 含むing £86 million to support 学院 信用s to develop their capacity to take on underperforming schools.
