David Hunter´s former 隣人s would welcome him 支援する to Cyprus village
David Hunter’s former 隣人s in the Cypriot village of Tremithousa have said he would be welcome 支援する in the small community if he decides to stay on the island.
The 76-year-old has been 解放（する）d from 刑務所，拘置所 after 存在 宣告，判決d to two years in 刑務所，拘置所 for the 過失致死 of his wife Janice, having already served 19 months in 保護／拘留.
Michael Polak, director of 司法（官） Abroad, which is 代表するing Hunter, said that in Cyprus a 被告 will spend 10 months in 保護／拘留 for every year that they are 刑務所，拘置所d.
裁判官s at Paphos 地区 法廷，裁判所 had 以前 （疑いを）晴らすd him of the more serious 告発（する），告訴（する）／料金 of 謀殺 after he said his spouse of 52 years begged him to end her life because she was 本気で ill with 血 癌.

Hunter’s daughter, Lesley Cawthorne, has said she believes that, rather than returning to the UK i mmediately after 存在 解放（する）d, he will stay in Cyprus so he can visit Mrs Hunter’s 墓／厳粛／彫る／重大な and “say his goodbyes 適切に”.
Mrs Hunter is buried a short distance away from the couple’s former home in Tremithousa ? a 静かな village about three miles from the 沿岸の 訴える手段／行楽地 town of Paphos.
The pair, from Ashington, Northumberland, visited Cyprus on holidays and bought a 所有物／資産／財産 there in 1999 before retiring there 永久的に two years later.
Fellow British expats Derek and Agnes Wickett knew the Hunters for around seven years after moving to the village themselves, and 述べるd them as a “lovely couple”.
They told the PA news 機関 that Mrs Hunter’s health got “terribly worse” in that time.

Mr Wickett, 74, said: “It didn’t bother (Mr Hunter), he just carried on. He loved her to bits.”
Mrs Wickett said she saw Mrs Hunter the night before her death in December 2021, when she went to their house to 減少（する） off Christmas cards and a 瓶／封じ込める of ワイン.
“She was sleeping on the c ouch so I didn’t go in, but David said how bad she was and that she had gotten worse.”
Mr Hackett said he thought the 判決 of 過失致死 was “権利” and that they would be glad to see Hunter return.
“Oh god, yes, he’s a 粉砕するing bloke. I think he would be welcome here, everybody liked him,” he said.
“I think everybody feels for him. It’s a shame, a terrible shame.
“I understand (what he did) in a way because he’s seen her 悪化する so much and I don’t think he 手配中の，お尋ね者 to see her 苦しむing like she was, but you’ve got to be in that position to know what he was feeling.”

German expats Helmut and Petra Kesting, who live several doors 負かす／撃墜する from the Hunters’ old house, …に出席するd 法廷，裁判所 定期的に during the 裁判，公判, and Mr Kesting gave 証拠 述べるing how Hunter cared for his wife “very 井戸／弁護士席”.
Mr Kesting told PA Mr Hunter was “very happy and very thankful” for his 証拠, and that he credits Mr Kesting with helping the 裁判官 rea ch a 判決 of 過失致死.
Speaking from their home ahead of Hunter’s 宣告，判決ing, Mr Kesting, 72, said the couple were “very helpful” to him and his wife when they moved to Tremithousa in 2019.
“We became very friendly with them. If somebody was going shopping we asked if the other party needed something and, when I had to go to Germany for 医療の 治療, David brought me to the airport and 選ぶd me up.”
The couple 述べるd how they saw a “大規模な” change in Mrs Hunter’s health in the last year-and-a-half of her life, and said that “every month she seemed 女性”.
“In 2019 and the first half of 2020 she was 楽観的な and David was very keen to enjoy her life,” Mr Kesting told PA.
“For example he bought a little open-topped sports car and drove with her around.
“Very often they told us they visited her most loved fish restaurant and things like this. At this time they were やめる active.”

Mr Kesting said he noticed the change in Mrs Hunter when she stopped coming out on to her balcony in the morning, when the two of them would have 正規の／正選手 雑談（する）s as he was letting his cats out.
“This was a daily 決まりきった仕事 but it changed in the last year 劇的な ? in the last half-year she didn’t show on the balcony at all
“Covid times was difficult for her, it was not 平易な for them to get the 治療 they needed because of 全体にわたる 不足s in Cyprus. David tried everything to help her.
“The last half-year she was 悪化するing in a 残虐な way, for me she looked deadly ill.”
Mrs Kesting, 66, said: “Two or three days before the bad day I was outside and I saw her. I called ‘Janice, hello’ three times but she just looked in 前線, she didn’t 反応する. I think she was absent, she was not there.”
The couple said Mr Hunter never complained that caring for his wife was too difficult, “やめる the opposite”.
“He said it was the most important thing of his life, to help her,” Mr Kesting said.
“But it’s （疑いを）晴らす the 状況／情勢 for David was more and more difficult, he had いっそう少なく and いっそう少なく 接触する with any person outside and stayed with her more.
“When we heard this 悲劇, what has happened, we are all shocked. We asked ourselves, should we have done more, but still today I can’t see how we could have done ? they 避けるd 活発に any 接触する.”

Mr and Mrs Kesting said they were “全く shocked” when they learned what had happened.
“Our first reaction was we couldn’t 受託する this. Then we discussed it with other people and learned more and more about how the 状況／情勢 really has been for Janice,” Mr Kesting said.
He said the 裁判官 had made a “very good” 決定／判定勝ち（する） to acquit Mr Hunter of 殺人, and that he is now an active 支持者 of legalised 安楽死 because of this 事例／患者.
“Of course we hope that they will just let him go, but we’ve no idea how 現実主義の this is.
“It’s very difficult for me to tell you what I would think is the 訂正する 宣告，判決.
“What he did is not 許容できる in my 見解（をとる）, for me it’s a 悲劇, it’s an overreaction in a very bad 状況／情勢, I would not recommend this to anyone. I can understand he has to get a 刑罰，罰則.”
